It's the dress I've dreamed of since I was a little girl

Since I can't get married in pure white since I'm not a virgin, I decided you know what, it may be red but it's beautiful. And I've always dreamed of a blood red wedding dress

    Next step, using the statement

A, B, C are digits. The 3-digit number ACB is divisible by 3, BAC is divisible
    by 4
, BCA is divisible by 5, and CBA has an odd number of factors. Find ABC.
    [3 marks]

We know that A = 5, hence, there is 5C

    where C is either 2 or 6.

Using the next statement 'The 3-digit number ACB is divisible by 3'

    We know that A + B + C is divisible by 3. So,
    if C = 2, B = 2, 5 or 8.
    if C = 6, B = 1, 4 or 7.

Then, using 'CBA has an odd number of factors'
    We have either of:
    225, 255, 285, 615, 645, 675

From those, we try each of them until we get an odd number of factors.

That's waaay too many numbers, it makes my brain hurt just looking at it!

Wearing white on your wedding day doesn't signify virginity, it just signifies your first marriage.

    A veil signifies virginity.

    Just saying.

    Ok, for example this one:

    Quote:

I didn't solve it and had to view the solution... :(

OK, so B can be pretty much any digit. C must be an even number. A must be either 5 or 0.

since a 3-digit number cannot start with 0, none of the digits can be 0, which mean A must be 5.

5CB must be divisible by 3, while B5C must be divisible by 4. since C must be even, that leaves us with 2, 4, 6, or 8. B can be any digit but 0 at this point.

    let's try A=5 B=1 C=6.
    561/3=187
    156/4=39
    165/5=33
the only way for a number to have an odd number of factors is if it has a whole number as the square root. The square root of 516 is 22.71, so it's not our answer.

    OK, so, let's try A=5 B=4 C=6
    564/3=188
    456/4=114
    465/5=93
the square root of 546 is 23.36, so it's not our answer, either.

    A=5 B=5 C=8
    585/3=195
558/4=139.5 which eliminates that as a possibility

    A=5 B=8 C=8
    588/3=196
    858/4=214.5 which eliminates that, too

    OK, I'm at a loss.

Doh I missed the obvious that a 3 digit number cannot begin with A being 0 so A is 5. Does having the flu count as a good excuse for being dim lol?

    225 it a perfect square - odd number of factors. So A = 5, B= 2, C=2.
