I soured on Idol when Melinda Dillon got an early boot. I've watched this year initially because my wife and daughter watched. Then I got caught up in rooting for Adam.
But this is it for me. If America can't recognize talent, I'm not interested.
I saw the end. But some of our Canadian friends, as well as west coast friends have not seen the end. For some, even the beginning. I missed the KISS performance.
And Adam was awesome with them. And Adam was awesome just about EVERY week. I give Kris credit, he grew into a genuine contender And in many other years he would have deserved to win. I think he is better than David Cook.
But Adam took an early lead and was clearly the front runner. He set the bar very high and everyone else came up short in the comparison. Its clear based in the last four years that America doesn't know talent or, at least doesn't vote for talent.
But we will see, Adam will sell more records, have more successful concert tours, do more in the entertainment business then Kris can even dream of.
When I was watching this episode, although I've been supporting him this whole time, when he was finally announced as american 2009, I felt something was wrong. He didn't seem like someone that would win idol, I don't know why but that's how I felt. Don't get me wrong, he's a great singer, but he's too humble. I think if he had a concert, no one would go see because it would be so boring. He's more of a cover person, like on the internet or w.e
We were talking about this at work tonight. Most coworkers preferred Adam for obvious reasons and because Kris moved around too much, waving his arms, etc. Kris also seemed to be trying too hard last night with playing the guitar and also the piano ("Look how versatile I am!"). Also, many of the disappointed Danny fans from last week jumped on Kris' bandwagon to foil a win by Adam.
I'm guessing (and hoping) we will see a lot more of Adam.
This is the thing I have been saying. Sure Kris is a better story, Awe Shucks, good ole boy from small town Arkansas, Nice family, really battled to improve himself. All of that is true.
But what American Idol is Supposed to be about is to find someone who can sell records and concert seats. Someone who will, essentially, payback the sponsors for their investment in the show by having a successful recording career. From what I've been able to tell, only Clarkson and Underwood, of the previous 7 years have done that, though the jury is still out on Cook. Kris is not in that class and as good as he is and can be, he never will be. Adam, on the other hand, has every indication of being multi-level threat. He will outsell every other Idol contestant on the charts. He will out earn every Idol contestant on tour. I think its possible he will be one of the few to ever win a Grammy, Emmy and Oscar and maybe a Tony. I just think he's that good.
Simon alluded to it in an earlier show, that Adam was just the type of person they have been looking for for 8 years. There is no question in my mind that Adam is the best EVER to grace the Idol stage. Even Kris said that "it should have been Adam." I think all the contestants knew it early on, and the competition was really for 2nd place.
But there is a bright spot here. The winner gets (is required to accept) a contract with the show for recordings etc. I'm not sure if the second place contestant has to accept what the show offers or can negotiate their own deal. If the latter is ture, then its probably better for Adam that he came in 2nd. Because they will be lined up at his door starting first thing this morning. If Adam had won, you would not see the same queue at Kris' door.
I have been reading that Danny's pastor had posted a Twitter begging the Danny-voters to vote for Kris, since both are Christian, and it would be great to have an aw-shucks, down-home, clean, farm-fed Christian boy win AI.
I totally agree with you, Scott. Few would be lined up at Kris's door had he come in second.
