This year, only two of my palms were productive. They were only planted early this spring. Of the five palms planted, only two of the three largest had fruit. But they all grew nicely!
Any advise on trimming them back for winter?

I'm not real good with it. My neighbor just tells me what to do. LOL These were planted about twenty years or so ago. Last year we chopped them right after the freeze (left about 3 foot stump) and they came back beautifully.

I have been reading that a lot of people leave them be and just cut off the bad leaves as they die... it's supposed to make them get more nutrients from the dying leaves.

Another site had too many different species to be sure as to what you had(somewhere like 20 different types)

Most say soil is the most important thing for a healthy plant.

That's about what I was thinking... I'll trim back the smaller trees and stump the larger ones.
    Time will tell...
These were free for the taking. The folks I got them from (close friends) said, "Take all you want! Get some for your neighbor's!!"
They have a banana palm grove that covers nearly an acre!
