I don't know if it will stop them from pooping on the floor. I've never had that problem. Luckily even the strays that I have taken in have all used the box with no issues.

I always just kind of followed them around, and when I saw them take the poop stance, I picked them up and stuck them in the litter box.

That might work, except they make the most mess when I'm asleep and/or at work.

That's a bummer. You need to get a cat sitter :p Or maybe a cat whisperer.

Like I said, I'm about ready to strangle the little sh!ts.

But you might strangle the poop out of them! Than you would have another mess to clean up. Do they use the box while you are at home? Can you close the door to your room while you are away?

When I'm able to watch them, the only place I see them scratching is next to the litter box.

There's really nowhere, but the bathroom, I could close them up in when I'm away. The door to my room doesn't latch and edith can open it with little effort. The extra bedroom has brand new, light-colored carpet. I'd rather they use the old, brown carpet in the other carpeted rooms, if they INSIST on using the carpet.

Hh, I wouldn't stand for that mess from kittens for more then a day, and I have had kittens at one time coming out my ears. All litter trained themselves as kittens do, of course, after being weaned and on their own. As you know, in no time at all. So how long are you going to have to put up with the mess? Have you got homes for them yet?

They're not weaned yet. Monday makes them 7 weeks old. I'm not going to send them off to new homes until they're at least 12 weeks old.

If you have suggestions on what to do to get them to stop pooping on my floor, I'm open. I want them to be the best behaved kitties possible when I find them homes.

Would a different litter make a difference?

I don't know. They don't seem to have anything against the litter. Just the litter box.

What kind of litter would you suggest? I need to buy more, anyway, so switching won't be a big deal.

I always liked mixing arm and hammor multi cat and the silica crystals.

Yes, of course, but those kittens must be not too healthy if they are going other places instead of litter box.

Oh, I see what the problem is, hh, if there is only one litter box they won't like it. You have to have at least three. How many kittens ? Cats won't tolerate only one for say, three cats even.

They're healthy, they just don't use the litter box. They do keep their messes confined to one corner. Maybe I can use that to my advantage.

Bella, right now I'm using tidy cats multi-cat. I do have some arm and hammer litter freshener powder stuff that I've been using for the past few days, that does WONDERS for the smell. I'd thought about trying silica litter, but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea since the kittens still eat anything they come across.

One of my neighbor's came up to visit last night. He smokes, so I gave him a saucer to use as an ashtray. After he left, spot ate the cigarette ashes before I could stop him.

Do you think silica litter would be safe if the kittens ate it?

    6 kittens.

I used to live with 9 cats, and they only had 1 litter box for the longest time, and did fine.

I'm willing to try adding another litter box to see if it'll help. I just want them to stop pooping on the floor.

I wouldn't know how healthy it would be for them to eat it... I know my cat has eaten a piece or two. She didn't get sick but she was also an older cat. Maybe check the back of the bag to see if it has an age limit on it.

Well, I just got back from the store. I got more litter, which I needed anyway, and a couple throw-away lasagna pans. I cleaned up the corner (AGAIN), sprayed it down with vinegar (AGAIN), and put down one of the lasagna pans for a kitten-sized litter box. Let's see if it works.

If it works, then I'll get an actual litter box for them. I'll also be able to open up the extra bedroom so they can have their playroom back.

The college I went to had a chef that made the most delicious veggie lasagna I've ever had. The chef that replaced him the next year tried to recreate it, and failed miserably.

Now I need to go look for veggie lasagna recipes. Maybe I'll be lucky and find one even I can make.

Veggie lasagna is a tricky dish. I only made it once.

What kind of litter did you try?

I got the only one they had in a plastic container. 9 lives. The last thing I need is a bunch of cats ripping open a bag of litter and tracking it everywhere and turning my entire living room into a litter box.

I really need to find a vacuum. Then find some way to get it home on my bike.

Make sure to save that container for next time, than you can put the litter that comes in the bag in the container (if you want to try another brand).

I planned on it. The first litter container I emptied got washed out several times and re-purposed to hold food, instead of getting it out of the giant bag all the time.

The other litter container is holding the litter scoop. I got tired of edith dragging it around, and the kittens were starting to try to copy her.

Way to do the three R's! Very Green of you.

I had to spend $10 to get a container for dog food.

    I feel your pain.

If you put something the kitties aren't too keen on the smell of in the area you don't want them to poop that might deter them. Suggestions: Lavendar - plant or essential oil, citrus spray or oil, garlic cloves, mothballs. Some people say tumble dryer sheets work.

How about covering the carpet with plastic runner, they won't like the feel of it and it would be easier to clean if they still persist.

Some people put helium balloons in the areas they don't want the kitties to go, having something shiny bobbing about distracts them and they don't get too close.

If they insist on going in a certain spot why not move the litter tray to there, with plastic sheeting under if need be, until they get the hang of always using it - or having extras ones there?

Do hope you find a solultion short of strangling them. :)

One cat fell off the end table onto another cat. That sent a third cat jumping behind the couch, getting tangled in the blind for a second on the way down. Cats 4 through 6 ran for cover as fast as they could. Mommy cat spent five minutes walking around, talking, convinced one of her babies got hurt. The entire time, I was laughing my a$$ off.
