Well, it's a 4 hour drive to my mom's right after work tomorrow.

I'm sure that when we get there, we'll find my sister in the only guest bed, so we'll have to sleep on an air mattress in like the living room or something... where her 5 kids can wake me up BRIGHT and EARLY in the morning (not a morning person). Instead of going to antique stores and hanging out, we're now going to some kids amusement park (the kind with no scary rides, just baby rides) and a petting zoo.

Doesn't that sound exciting to you? Imagine how much fun it sounds when you don't have kids!

I just can't believe my mom just ditched me for grandkids. Okay, I can believe it, but how sucky is it to lose out to 5 kids under 10?

Yup, if your Mom is understanding, I would just make another date with her. Let her have time with the kids.

Could you and hubby book into a motel and have yourselves some naughtyness? And do the family thing in the day??

    Synnen, sorry about your weekend.

With the budget for saving for a house, we don't really have the extra money.

If I cancel, it's ammunition... my sister gets to say that I'm so selfish that I can't even visit with my mom if she's there. Seriously, mom would be disappointed, but my sister would use it as an opportunity for poison--so I can't cancel, or it will get worse.

As far as rescheduling... this and one other weekend are the only ones we have left open this summer to visit with my folks, and we scheduled THIS one because the next one is my sister and kids, and my brother and HIS kids, and we were told that because we don't have kids, we're being relegated to the tent with the air mattress, since we don't have to worry about kids waking up in the night in a strange place.

I mean... it's bad enough that we can't get pregnant. This just makes me feel like we're second class family because we don't have grandkids to bring with us.

I'm just frustrated. Thanks for listening.

ARe the kids too young that they wouldn't think sleeping in a tent with mom and dad is fun?

Sister sounds sneaky and vendictive. Sorry you have to deal with that. I am real sorry! Maybe it will turn out differently and you might just have a smidgin of fun. Maybe you can ask Mom to come to lunch with just your husband and you while some of the kids are resting?

The tent just isn't big enough... but that's actually one of my concerns! I don't want to be the bad guy that has to say no to the kids who want to stay out there with us, but there are FIVE kids. They're 10, 7, 5, 4, and 2. The last 2 aren't potty trained, and the 4 year old has night terrors, so she has to be close to mom anyway. The other 3 will be spoiled to death by gramma and papa, and we'll be doing everything to the kids' schedules.

I'm just sick and tired of every time we try to spend time with anyone, we have to do it with kids involved too. I'd like an ADULT weekend sometime, where we stay out late, and eat potato chips between meals and have alcohol and don't have to share our lipstick with 5 year olds and can have leftover chinese for breakfast the next morning.

(yes, I realize I'm just whining now. Thanks so much for being sympathetic... that helps TONS)

God no, I understand how you feel!!

When we go to Gulf Shores there are 19 of us, almost to be 21 of us, who stay all together in a small condo. It can get rather stifling.

    Omg... 21?

Now I don't feel so bad.

Yup, got a new baby on the way (not me! ) and a soon to be new hubby for the niece. It gets pretty cramped because they are not nearly as clean as me and I die in the mess.

I know the feeling of hating to live in someone else's mess, even for a short time!

Ugh... I just can't get past the 21 people in the same place for more than a few hours. My god... you must have like 4 people to each bed!

Air mattresses all over the place, LOL

The condos we get are usually pretty big and all sofas pull out to be beds, there are usually 4 or 5 bedrooms. But STILL!!

We didn't go this year, LOL

LOL Synn - poor thing... I would be whining too. And I have a child, but that doesn't mean I like other peoples kids all the time... lol. There are times I can't stand my own nephews... so I can imagine. Im sorry your family won't be more understanding.

J- when we go to gulf shores, its all 5 siblings, their spouses, 15 kids (10 are boys), my parents, and typically the dogs as well... lol. I feel you. Its more of a challenge than a vacation... lol.

Thanks for the help! I'm a noob when it comes to YouTube (that could be a Dr. Suess title, no?).

I guess I am a certified redneck, where I come from they are called Pig Pickins, not Hog Roasts!

Here is the beauty that is my daughter in her yearly recital. She is the tall one righ behind the teacher.
