I got an award today!
At that age, it's up to the PARENTS to explain sex to their kids. Third graders are 8-9 years old. Schools need to wait until they're at least 11-13 before going into details about sex. It's simple not an appropriate conversation at school for an age group that young.
Give them all the correct names for body parts. Explain about the different types of families. Give the basics of how the reproductive system works. But schools just do NOT need to be explaining the finer points of sex that young.
Ya Emop! :)
I agree Hheath. Totally.
Well folks, I am off to the shelter, I volunteered to do the late shift tonight. I'll be on later tonight I'd imagine.

Tickle, tell me the kind of dog you want, there are a few that I think would suit you just wonderfully. They're in our shelter in Edmonton.

I want the doggies...
Damm you Alty, the last picture, the black shepard, awwww nooooooooooooooo, want but can't have :'(
Oooooh, you wouldn't have to talk me into it if I could, but I can't give a dog a good home, not yet anyway :(
I don't think I should adopt any more pets for a very long time. My track record is interesting.
About 3 years ago, I adopted a couple kittens form my sister. They were both boys, even the vet said so. Then one of them got pregnant and had four babies.
A couple months ago, I adopted a little stray. She had six babies.
Every time I adopt a pet they end up giving birth.
Hell, I even ended up adopting a pregnant fish. Granted, the babies got eaten before I could do anything about it, but they were still there.
Just call me the goddess of feline fertility.
OMG, Kitty, my heart... My... Brett... this is devastating!
Oh and Cat thanks for the balancer :)
How are you tonight Cat?
A little bummed out. Feeling kind of invisible these days. Been thinking of taking a break from a few things. One being the shelter. I'm trying to keep my peeves to a minimum, but I am failing miserably.
Are your peeves anything you want to talk about?
No, it's not okay at the shelter. It's taking a toll on my life and it's making me feel like an awful human being. I don't know what's wrong with me. I feel... stupid. It's not even about me, but I seem to be making it about me.
This dog is getting put down, I don't think he should be. I am so upset with the things I have been seeing. And I feel helpless, it's completely out of my control. I used to love going on the dog forum, I really used to enjoy it. Now I can't even bring myself to go on it.
I can't even explain how I feel right now. I think I may take some time off AMHD too. I don't know what's wrong with me.
I am sorry about the dog. Working at animal shelters can take a huge toll on anyone with a heart and I know you have a big one. Taking a break might be a good idea before you get totally burned out.
I can tell you that the past couple of weeks have not been easy on you. From surgery, going back to work early and topping it off with the news about getting laid off. It is enough to send anyone into a downward spiral. Maybe you need to switch outlets for a few days. Give yourself time to recharge by spending time with your family (daughter and pup).
No one would think less of you if you need some 'me' time. As you have probably noticed, you will be missed (by me for just one person) and if you ever want advice just start a thread. Not only will you get advice, you will get comic relief and probably end up with it hijacked a few times. :)
Thanks Cat. You know, I may give it a few days to clear my head, and do that (start a thread). You're right, maybe I just have too much on my plate right now.
You are an awesome person, and I appreciate you.
