Well how are you? Tus I haven't seen you for a while is everything good? Hi Joe.

Well, I have to go and do one of my least favorite things. I have to go look at cars, my lease is up in a few days. I don't like dealing with most car salesmen/women... games...

Just found out that we are probably going to have a major layoff at our job. Do not know what Is going to happen but I truly believe whatever does happen greater things are meant to be else where.

Awww JH that sucks either way though. Stressful too. I was just wondering how you were doing. And you know that I mean no disrespect in the homosexuality discussion right?

Not at all Tuscany, I have different views and thoughts about it. You do not have to worry about that Tuscany. I stand up strong about my views but I do understand that my view is not the only one.

Joe I am sorry to hear that.

I can only relate with my own experiences. As you know I am much older than you and in my work/business life I have changed jobs, gotten laid off, and even fired once. I agree with your thinking, if it happens a positive attitude does help. It seems that each time this happened I got a better job, and learned a lot in the process.

If you remember, I mentioned before that I had two other companies in the past and both failed after a few years for one reason or another. I learned from those failures.

I hope that the layoff doesn't happen to you. And I will say a prayer for you. But if it does, start immediately looking for what YOU want to do, I know you will find something even better for you and your family, I know you and I know what kind of man you are.

Best of luck in whatever happens,

You got it Joe, anything I can do...

I would love to make a move to a new area, it is just that my wife is not so keen. She knows there are pros and cons to everything but many people are afraid of change. Including me to a certain point. At the same time I know that by eventually moving would also create something new and possibly better, but you do not know until it happens right? I can just get up and leave without any communication but I honestly feel that whether I am one of the ones getting laid off or not, that I need to seriesly think about doing something different and as you put it something that I want to do. To do this though I think a move is necessary as well.

    What do you think?

A person much smarter than me once said:

"If you find something that you love to do, you will never 'work' another day in your life."

    They are many, many considerations Joe and no one can tell you what is best for you, including me. However I can give you my opinion/s. And I mix them with life stories, for example my own;

I always wanted to be my own boss... always for as long as I could remember. I would talk to as many people as possible that were successful, happy and had turned that success into money, money for their security and the security of their family. And I learned, absorbed as much as I could about things, people, nature of things, etc.

I learned from older people, people who have "lived" the life they wanted to. And that life didn't always mean lots of money either. They seemed to understand what I was looking for... and do you know what it was? Several things; true happiness, less stress (from everything including monetary stress), financial security, respect from those whom I wanted their respect, and much more.

Can you imagine having a career or job where you couldn't wait to just put your feet on the floor each morning and get started, a challenge to prove what you are capable of?

There is much more Joe, much more. But human nature says that the only real thing that constitutes and causes real change is: FEAR.

Fear of losing something, fear of getting something you don't want, fear that something will cause... change... That is the motivator for most people. But there are some out there Joe that have something special, something inside that says: "I cannot go on with my life like this for years on end and then simply retire and someday pass." That 'something" is different for each of these types of people. It could be any of the things I mentioned above or all of them, whatever...they are driven not to just exist and completely depend on others. the only security these people have is themselves and that can be very scary to the other masses of people.

I had two other companies that lasted 2-3 years each and they both failed for one reason of another as I mentioned before. But DAMN IT, I knew I had learned enough to be successful and it took years (you have to start somewhere) of this "learning" and all of it wasn't at the university.

Change is very scary and people make it sometimes without thought to the dangers involved and they should consider everything.

But Joe...what would be so bad about getting laid off? This would force change an dI know that you would capitalize on the opportunity. Remember the Greek myth about the destroyed city? "and out of the damage and ruin raised the Phoenix and life stated anew... "

Believe me when I say, there is a whole different world out there Joe...

Only you can make any decisions that are about your life and your families...

I really enjoy helping my friends, especially the younger ones in maybe pointing a way or offering some instructions. But I don't have all the answers, because each situation is different.

I would not mind talking more on this subject.

Nice tribute to George, Stringer! He had always been one of my very faves. I've got an entire thing memorized since I was really young that he used to do. I think it was called, things you'll never hear anyone say ever again. Something like that. "Hand me that piano"... "Please saw my legs off"... "Do what you want to the girl, but leave me alone"... and then there's the long one that I memorized that starts with... "eye eye, with a two two two... three four five... down her mother, we're all home now... and it goes on from there. Funny man!
