    Stringer

Good morning to you Bear and Start. I am doing fine this morning although it is 11:15 pm already.

Start I hope your stuffy nose feels better... mom always said; VICKS! For me it is similar to my sinus headaches and I take a swig of very hot coffee and hold it in my mouth, the heat loosens it all up. OR, stand in the shower and let very hot water run on your face and on the back of your head...

Don't forget to may another appointment with my receptionist on your way out and my bill will be in the mail... ha ha.

Marta wants to go shopping today... there's a twist (being funny, don't tell her that I said that... K?) Actually, she wants me to buy a new bomber leather jacket (black or rusty brown). And I still have two gift cards to Mens Warehouse and she wants me to use them before they might go out of business too... probably not, but you never know??

I would enjoy just taking it easy around the hiouse today... but.

Well, we haven't heard anything new about Gerald my friend as yet. If we can get in to see him we will also do that today. But if he is still in Intensive Care they won't let us see him. I am waiting for his daughter to call me...

    Have a good en...

You too stringer, don't worry I won't tell marta :)
Maybe there is wisdom in her taking you shopping, getting you out of the house and getting your mind onto different thngs, might be a nice break :)
Sorry to hear about your friend, hope everything turns out all right :)
Cya later I've got to go out for a bit, enjoy the rest of your day
    You too start :)
    Laters.

    Thanks Bear.

I have found over the life of this wonderful marriage that she is a very deep and caring person... she just keeps setting that bar higher and higher... like most good women (that obviously includes you Start). She really is the "glue."

You're a lucky man Stringer, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You found yourself a keeper, and so did Marta. :)

I'm on my second cup of coffee, but for some reason it's not working. :(

Starty, we all have different opinions, that's what this place is about. I know you, you're a sweetie, I'm sure Artlady knows that too. Don't worry okay? :)

I like all of you even though we all are DIFFERENT!
I value our difference is the best quote ever and I use it frequently;)

Cheers Starty! Can you do cheers with coffee? Oh well, Cheers! :)

I'm getting another cup, maybe I can get a buzz going. :)

Also, I love our differences too, that's what makes the world go round. We're all so very different and that's what makes us so interesting. I just never know what any of you will say, I love that, you all keep me on my toes. :)

WE keep YOU on YOUR toes? Can we reverse that? LMAO Funny Alty, really funny.

I am happy right now, I remembered to get the kids shoes washed before it was too late to set them out to dry;) Oh yes, my brain is in working order!

    Ya, you do.
I want the people that live in my house to stay gone for a little longer... is that wrong?
  • Jan 25, 2009, 11:39 AM
    Alty

No, not wrong, human. I feel the same way. ;)

Sydney was supposed to be grounded yesterday because she had a bad day on Friday. Hitting, screaming, whining, not listening. Her punishment was to completely clean her room, wash the walls (she painted them with finger paint) sweep the floor and wash it, and also remove her bedding (also has paint on it).

Now, here's the kicker. I'm a pushover. Her friend called and asked if Sydney could go to a movie with her and her mom. I thought about it, and agreed. Why? Syd was whining, didn't want to do her punishment and this way I could get her out of the house for at least 2 hours. Bad mommy. :(

Today I'm putting my foot down! I think. ;)

Ohhh, yes ALTY... we all feel like it would be easier to get rid of the problem rather than address it. Been there done that, but this last few years, especially these last couple I have been on this site... well, I have made some major changes. One thing still hasn't worked... and that is getting my two older kids to at least pretend they love each other at LEAST 50% of the time... Now that would be a time worth celebrating;)

It all comes together, given time.

I know that from experience from my siblings, I just wish they could pretend while they are children, so I wouldn't get so frustrated... Grrr
  • Jan 25, 2009, 12:03 PM
    Alty

I feel the same way Starty.

I don't have a point of reference for siblings, I'm an only child, Hubby's sister is 17 years older than him, moved out when she was 18, so for all intents and purposes he was raised as an only child too.

This sibling thing is confusing. Sometimes they adore each other, other times they want to kill each other. Kids! ;)

Yup, when I was younger, my older brother by two years tormented me... I mean it was bad, not that I didn't annoy him, but his actions were horrible. I just know my oldest son wants his sister to just BE QUIET and when she won't, and he asks a million times, he gets pissed off. I understand where he is coming from, but he needs to be the OLDER one. She needs to be quiet sometimes... Hmmmph, I think we will be talking when they get home;) Won't they just love me! Bwwwahahahaha

    Okay, I'm sad now.

On the pets forum someone came on yesterday and asked about her sick puppy. From what she described it was obviously parvo. We told her to take the pup to the vet but she couldn't afford it so she tried to care for him at home. Parvo cannot be treated at home, but she couldn't find another option. Well, the puppy died last night. :(

Someone cheer me up please. I hate this part of AMHD. :(

I had 7 sisters, stepsisters and step brothers.. the law was quickly laid down... and if you did not abide... there was always the quick slap upside the head.

I do not and have never agreed to this sort of punishment and I never applied it to my two children and they do not do that to theirs either.

I found that fear and physical punishment is not a healthy contributor to bringing up children. And if it happens, they continue it with their own children... the loop continues.

Now did I ever spank them... yes, both on only two occasions during the time they were are home.

I am very sorry to hear this, I am sure that given the circumstances the vet would have given her a break. And this poor puppy would have gotten one also.

I just try to get them to get along and they do at some points. Just others not so good. Anything and everything annoys them about each other. I don't spank them either, not to say I never have. Very very rarely have I ever laid my hands on my kids. I found that if I take their phones, it seems to do pretty darn good;)

Awww, alty, poor puppy. Ohh so sad. Sorry to hear that, and I do know that just like anything else, if you can't afford it, don't do it! Poor little puppy

    Alty

    Thanks you two. :)

The saddest thing is that it was already to late for this puppy, even if she had gotten to a vet. Parvo is deadly within hours, the survival rate isn't high and those that do survive are usually sickly and weak for the rest of their lives. Sometimes I think that the ones that die of this disease are better off than the survivors. It's a horrible disease, highly contagious, can live for years in feces etc.

If she had gotten to a vet the treatment would have cost thousands of dollars, it's not cheap and not a guarantee of survival.

I just wish there was more we could do than just type out some helpful tips and then leave hoping everything will work out.

Sorry guys, I'm bringing down the mood. I just feel a bit down because of this. I wish there was more I could do. :(

Naw, don't you worry, that is what friends are for. Makes me very sad to hear it. I bet she is just so sad too.:(

    Alty

Yes, she is. She said this was the first dog she ever had, she doubts she'll get another. I suggested that she adopt an older dog from a shelter, one with all it's shots. No matter what, she'll have to disinfect her entire house and yard and wait at least 6 months. Even a dog with all it's shots can get parvo, although it's usually a milder case. Poor puppy, he didn't have a chance. :(

Okay, no more sad, sad, let's be happy now. I have to clean today (wait, I said happy right? ;))

    I wish I had beer! :)

My house is clean... sorry Alty, I have had way too much time to do it, so I did it;)
I would really like to rearrange the dog room it is about 12 by 20 feet and he is the only one in there... a desk a few mis placed pieces of furniture, but since he is a blak lab and sheds like crazy, I leave the room alone and let it get to its worst shape before cleaning it...
I would never let him in the rest of this house, I would be miserable cleaning all the time (more than I do now) Aww, what to do, what to do
  • Jan 25, 2009, 12:54 PM
    Alty

Go for it. Maybe get him involved. Throw some toys for him to fetch while you tidy, a good belly rub, some hugs and kisses, before you know it the room will be clean and organized. ;)

I have the bunny room, and boy does it get messy. The bunny's are cleaned daily, but the area on the floor isn't, so I always have a few stray wood chips and bunny poos on the floor. I need one of those vaccuums that just goes all day and does the job on its own. ;)

    Actually, I need a maid. :)

Well, all I can say is that you girls are obsessive compulsive, hire a cleaning company and just sit and give orders as to what you want done... very easy... right?

    Well, you wanted some humor?
