    Aww, I'm sorry Stringer.

This is why we don't do anything big on our lawn. We have Christmas lights on the house, and I've wanted a display (our yard is too small for much) for years, but everyone that has them here is wasting their time. Any lawn displays are covered in snow, the blow up ones don't look good because of the cold and the snow pushes them down.

I would like to make some wooden elves and a Santa and reindeer one year, but not this year. You couldn't pay me to go outside and put them up anyway, at least not right now. ;)

I think that I will be OK Alty, I just checked outside and they are still attached to the ground but blown over. I guess I will have to just use more ground spikes.

Like I said earlier, two years ago I learned a lesson, my grandson and I laid net lights all over the front lawns, it looked especially beautiful. Three days later it snowed and then froze for the next few weeks all those lights, hundreds of them, were covered in ice/snow 8 inches deep. All that work, and no one even saw them... I won't try that again.

I'll send some pics later, this Saturday grandson and I are going to do the back patio and gazebo with lights and some displays in that yard also... I love it!! :)

This is going to sound cheesy, but it really makes me happy that you and your grandson are spending the time together to get ready for Christmas. It also makes me jealous. If my parents were still alive I know that my dad and Jared would be doing their house this year. My mom and Sydney would be making cookies and the gingerbread house. We'd have family time together.

Damn, I miss them so much, especially this time of year.

    Sorry, I'm having a moment.

That's OK hon... I am sure that they would be spending time together and enjoying every minute of it.

I understand, this time of the year it is especially difficult as we always went back home to Western Pennsylvania to have Christmas with mom and family... miss her a lot too. She loved my decorating though and maybe that is a little as to why I enjoy it so much.

We still keep to most of our traditions on Christmas, the traditions my parents set out.

Every Christmas eve we'd go to my parents house, drink some bailey's, sing carols, open presents, just be a family. When Jared came along it was even better. My parents loved having a grandchild. Then Christmas day was a day of family, enjoying a meal, and being together. The weeks before that were fun too. Ice skating, baking, wrapping, being together. We saw each other almost every day. Their absence is a huge void.

Now it's just Rod and me and the kids, and I have to say, even though my Aunt and Uncle invite us for Christmas dinner every year, it just isn't the same. I feel like it's a pity invite, the poor girl who lost both her parents within 6 months. They care, I know they do, and the fact that they invite us, I appreciate it so much, but no one will ever love Rod, me and the kids like my parents did.

Christmas eve is spent at home, and I try my hardest to make it like the Christmas's I remember as a child, and an adult, but something is missing. My mom and dad.

January 12 will be the 10th anniversary of my fathers death. Ten years already. My son is 12, my daughter 8. Time is just going by so fast, and yet it all feels like just yesterday. It's all etched into my mind forever.

My goodness I'm bringing down the mood.

More pictures? I think we both need a smile.

I don't have pictures but it officially snowed for the first time today. I hate it! I will update pictures tomorrow!

    Night Stringer and Happy Thanksgiving.

IT, it just snowed? How cold is it? I bet I can top you. My yard isn't visible. If my beagle goes outside he's covered in snow. Ya, it's winter in Canada. ;)

    You're drunk too. Cheers! :)

It's around -20C right now. A lot better than the -30 we had yesterday and the day before. For you Americans, -30C is around -22 F. Can you shiver? I can!

It's around zero here now, although it's 1pm so expect it will drop a fair bit by tonight. Coldest I remember was -18, although a bit of checking revealed it has been down to -26 in England, glad I don't remember that one. I really CAN'T imagine the -30s and -40s. Ok, I couldn't resist checking and my Google came up with a lowest recorded temp in Canada of -63. My mind is truly boggled now. I read once that the only reason we don't have weather the same as Canada is because of the gulf stream. I've been silently cheeering it on ever since. Sorry Alty.

We had record snows last year which brought most of the country to a halt for a few spells, and of course had everyone scratching their heads as to how places like Canada actually cope lol. Hope we're not in for a repeat.

LOL! I love the pictures. Poor kitty's.

I've never had to experience -63 and I hope I never do. I can't imagine it, -30 is bad enough, but twice that plus 3? No thanks.

Today it's actually nice, a balmy -5. I didn't even wear my winter jacket, just a sweater. It's nice. It's not supposed to last though. By Saturday we're supposed to be in the high teens, -19. Still better than -30. ;)

I loved your winter sucks squirrel. It's on my new desktop slideshow with lots of other wintry and xmas things to make me feel friendlier towards winter. Yeah, right, lol.

You must be a hardy lot in Canada. Anything with a minus means a coat and hat for me. Especially the hat; I get the most evil earache and headache if I get so much as a whisp of cold wind in my earholes.

Do you get the kind of snow that makes snowballs and snowmen Alty, or is it the really powdery stuff that never sticks?

Most Canadians are pretty hardy, there's one kid in Jared's class that wears shorts all year. He was wearing them this week during our cold snap. Just looking at him made me colder.

I'm German, and I have to say, even though I've lived here most of my life (moved here when I was 3 1/2) I've still never adjusted to this cold. I really hate winter. I hibernate. I don't go outside unless I absolutely have to, which I do every day because I drive the kids to school and pick them up.

We get lots of snow, but the quality depends on the temperature. When it's -30 it won't stick, it's not soft enough. At around 0 it's snow man building snow. A few years back we had a freak snow fall in April, that was perfect snow for building. We made a fort. I have a picture.

-30 is not really that cold. The cold out here feels a lot warmer then the cold out east.

I was out walking around without my jacket and quite enjoyed it. Until last night the temp went up but the wind picked up and started blowing everything around. I was not so brave then.

    Merry Christmas everyone,

    Joe

By the way there are signs in nature, if you are curious how I know will fill you guys in later.

The animals are saying it is going to be a long cold winter. They are fattening themselves up to survive.

Ah good, now I have an excuse.. :p I'd like to know about the other signs, apart from me munching too many mince pies heh heh. I remember someone telling me lots of berries is something to do with it but don't know if there's any fact in that.

Actually the thermometer says it is slightly colder today than yesterday but it feels warmer so I kind of get what you mean JH. We do tend to get a lot of wind on cold days and that freezes your marrow something rotten. On the rare still, cold days it's quite nice.

Heading off to Oxford for a couple of days shortly for the graduation. Not much snow about yet yipee. Have a good weekend all.
