Sundogs are visible when the sun is near the horizon and on the same horizontal plane as the observer and the ice crystals. As sunlight passes through the ice crystals, it is bent by 22 degrees before reaching our eyes, much like what happens with 22 degree halos. This bending of light results in the formation of a sundog. But you knew that anyway. He he.
Why are they called this? I have no idea. :D
Damn.. he is awake.lol
Too slow boyo ;)
Nice try, 8/10 for effort 1/10 for paying attention in class
Do you guys ever see sundogs in the UK? Just curious. I saw some today, as our temperature is around -35 C right now. They're beautiful but it's hard to think of that while you're freezing your a** off!
Orange I don't think I've ever seen them in the UK, but saying that I live near the cost where its always warm (ish)
I meant to say sundogs above lol not snow dogs, do you have photo's of them??
I've seen a hot dog.Nice with tomato sauce.Yummie. :D
I live in the "heart of the Midlands",and we don't get much snow. :( The last really cold "spell" I remember (just) was December 1995,when we had knee deep snow for a week. Then it thawed.Boo-hiss.Never seen a snow dog though.
Hey, CurlyBen,
Did you send your wife an ecard for Valentines??
Or get some real roses.
Have a good one.
Here's a good picture of a sundog in Canada... actually of two. The sun is in the middle. The aurora borealis (northern lights) are much prettier of course! Actually one thing I like about living in northern SK is our skies. They are really awesome.
Thanks Orange they look cool! I have never seen them before...
Wow that's a long time with no snow! I actually like snow too, but I wish it wouldn't get so cold here! Actually this winter has been very mild (still lots of snow though). Apparently Siberia and other parts of northern Europe are getting the cold weather we were supposed to get.Quote:

You live in a nice part of the world. The only Northern lights I see,are after two bottles of wine.
They look great next time I'm over in Canada I will have to try and take a look for them... Do you know if you can see them in B.C our would I have to travel more??
I'm not sure... maybe northern BC? I think they're generally more northerly, although I've heard you can see them further south occasionally. I know for a fact though that they are brighter and more spectacular the further north you go. Maybe you should try visiting the Yukon, it's right above BC. ;)
That sounds like a plan, I will have to try and get my step brother to lend me his wheels and take a road trip around Canada its something I've felt like doing for some time... I think heading down far north sounds best if its anything to go by those photo's you posted...
NwsFlash - If Ben's number's work you'll probably have to share the winnings with all the other UK peeps that used his numbers.
Ben - tisk, tisk for forgetting the flowers.
Anyway a question:
"What is the shortest, complete sentence in the English language?"
What ?Quote:

Nope :P The correct answer is "I am!"
A sentence by the linguisitic definition, must have a noun (I) and a verb (AM). Supposedly. You know I just copied and pasted that sentence :)
Clever so and so, but I didn't say I would get anything correct ;)
LTheobald your right I never looked at it that way, we could all end up with £20.00 each lol on a jackpot win.;)Quote:
