Ruby, DRY is a term used for describing whites, not reds.
White styles are basically dry, medium and sweet with the bits between.
Reds on the other hand are classified by body.
Light, medium and full with a few others.
Most of the time when a red is described as "dry", its due to the amount of tannin it contains (high).
Tannins decrease over time in the aging process.

So I love big full bodied Reds mostly Shiraz, Zinfandel and Cabernet sauvignon, but I never pass up trying something new or different and NEVER ever say no to a fully mature Class Growth Claret ;)

Since you are occupied, I will give you info on this:

Dogajolo of Tuscany, 2005. "Made from 80% Sangiovese grapes blended with 20% Cabernet Savignon grown on dry farmed, hillside vineyards in cental Tuscany. Fruity and well balance, with hints of berries, coffees, vanilla, and spice, are matched with a supple tanin structure and a long finish. This young 'Super-Tuscan' wine shows at its best with full-flavored dishes such as roasts, grilled meats, cold cuts and tomato based Italian specialties such as pizza and pasta."

*Hic* Don't know about all that *hic* stuff. But it, *hic* is mighty tasty. *hic* Reasonably *hic* priced. Lovely.

    I LOVE Shiraz too.

I found this wine while on my last visit to NY. I think if you appreciate a sangiovese too, you will like this if you haven't tried it. Let me know what you think of it if you do decide to try it. I would be interested in your opinion.

Good Morning all of you beautiful Monkeys :).

On the subject of wine :)... I love a couple of glasses of white zinfendel (did I spell that right?) I like more on the sweet side. Hubby's friends gets that homemade red stuff, UGH!
Everyone loves it (hubby doesn't drink wine). But most people just love the homemade stuff. I am the oddball, to me it taste like it could heal open wounds. But I do love my zinfendel.

To be honest, I always thought "dry" referred to red. But I really never paid much mind to it. That's an interesting little tidbit to know, thanks :). And think I'll mosey on to the "what have you learnt from this site :) ".

Do you guys like the homemade red wine? Why is it so strong? It is so tart, my face doesn't go back to its normal expression for days

    Many monkey hugs to all

LOL it is a bit early :)

How do you get it to fizz :) ?

I can drink more when I eat. One time, hubby and I were out eating, he was drinking his beer, and I was being a nice young lady drinking my glass (es) of wine. We're talking.. eating... ordering more beer and glasses of wine... and the lovely waitress comes back and says to me, " Honey, it would be cheaper if you just bought the bottle" LOL
She was right, but still!! :) LOL.

Well, when you all decide to check back here, I am just adding my opinion. I don't really like sweet wines unless I am having dessert. I can take it when I am eating some fruit and dessert cheeses. I am not big into champagne or the bubblies.

My tastes lean more toward what Ben was describing. I love a good shiraz and a good merlot. I am hardly the expert that Ben is. But, I guess it would be a fair statement to say I have been drinking longer than he has! :p So, at any rate, I know what I like. When friends visit, I scour the stores for reasonably priced wines and we do our own wine tasting sessions. That wine I was describing was served at a friend's house with dinner. I like chiantis but it is not my wine of choice. But, it was the first time in a while that a wine really caught my attention. It was so reasonably priced that I went and bought of a case of it. I rarely do that. So, CBW, reading what you prefer, I think it is a safe assumption that you will not like this wine. This is a very bold, full flavored wine. Ben might like it. If you are interested in it, and can find it, I really would value your opinion. And, if there are any that you are bowled over by, I would very much like to know what they are. A friend is coming for a visit in a week and it would be nice to have some new suggestions to try out.

Oh, and by the way,. good morning, good afternoon, good evening... all.

We are the monkey girls! We are the monkey girls! Doo woppity do do do!

Oh I never said I didn't like red wine after the job both me and ben did we had the ability to taste wines from all over the world on someone else's exspence I just have to be in the right mood for red and it has to be a ozzi red at that darenberg is to die for but then so's is the headache next morning.
White wines must be from new zealand to make my palet happy and pink well if its pink its pink some of the most heavy wines can be of pink style and extreamly heavy in alcahol volume to.
This is who we both worked for and also how we met and so the storybegan. Oddbins Wine Merchant
