Yes, especially with the 'Applications' part, where features the new discoveries. A pattern pointed out by my teachers, is that most of the things in the applications section are from the recent nobel prizes.

In physics, for example, we have medical physics (X-ray, MRI), telecommunications (Digital signals, Amplitude modulation and frequency modulation) and a last part, remote sensing (Inout and output devices in an electric circuit, including amplifiers)

In chemistry, there are much more:
Environmental Chemistry (Global Warming, Oil Spills, Greenhouse gases, Poisonous substances in the environment)
Biochemistry (DNA, RNA, replication, translation and transcription of DNA for producing proteins, enzymes together with some diseases related to DNA mutations, proteins themselves in terms of primary, secondary and tertiary structures)
Analytical Chemistry (Chromatography, HPLC, TLC, GLC, NMR, Mass Spectrometer, X-Ray Crystallography)
Polymers (Carbon rods, buckmister ball, spider silk, kevlar)
    Drug design and delivery
    Nanotechnology

The last two haven't been done yet. They will be done in the third trimester.

Phew that's a lot of things to learn about

    Fingers crossed for you :)

    Unknown008

Lol, that's only the applications, which is supposed to be 15% the whole thing!

Thanks again. So much to do in so little time...

But it's also the education system in Mauritius... In England, the students my level take an exam on their first year, and then, the next part of their exams the next year. Here, they skip the first year exams, and put all the exams together on the second year, which makes it quite a lot in little time :(

Ahh are you doing the mauritius equivalent of english A levels (college)?
  • Jul 3, 2010, 10:51 AM
    Unknown008

    Yes :)

Uh... I think it's High School (though it's now a 'tradition' to call high school, 'college')

We have primary school (years 1-6), Secondary school (years 7-11, GCSE's), College (years 12-13, A-levels), then uni, so which would you be?

    Hi emop, how's things? :)

I take it not pregnant is good?

Things are great, Dad got a job he starts on Tuesday. How about you?

Yes it is in many ways, but I was sort of hoping (I know bad bad emop!)

Ah, so, for that system, I'd be in college too.

My GP teacher said that Colleges and Uni are on the same level, it's just that colleges are affiliated with 'main' uni.

Like, there's Cambridge, and in the campus, you have several colleges. Well, I'm most confused now... anyway, since you know the system better than me, I must have misunderstood my teacher. Thanks for the little information! :)

Well, I'm somewhat glad to know that Emop. I would prefer that you know your partner for a longer period before having a baby, that is another level of responsibility, and right now, you just need to enjoy each other, and not try to rear a child. I think it's too early IMO. :)

It is too early, I agree. Which is why I'm continuing with my birthcontrol this month

    I'm all right thanks :)

I hear if I've got a job on Tuesday and I'm officially mostly moved out :D

I'm not going to scold you emop :), only you will know when you want to have children.

Me for example, the thought of having a child at my age as I am now, scares the crap out of me, I'm nowhere near ready or to settle down or devote the time, I'm still rather happy go lucky and go with the flow kind of guy :D

But I now a gal (20) a year younger than me (married to one of my best friends), now has 3 children under the age of 7, one being a 3 or so month old, and I believe just broke up with my friend, life is what you make it :)

The thought of having a kid at my age, isn't so scary actually, for me I mean.

Good luck with the job =)

Over here, colleges can get you A-levels, Universities are where you get degrees :)
