That is scary but true... I think this society likes to live in a bubble but when it pops, and everyone suffers... it will be too late.
I do care.. but I don't really know how to make a difference.. at least you are trying.

I just read this article titled "Fiscal Tsunami" by the comptroller general of the U.S.

    U.S. Faces Fiscal ‘Tsunami’ | Newsweek Business | Newsweek.com

He pretty much sums up fiscal responsibility in this country in this day. This guy is all pessimistic and stuff. Wonder why.

The Germans have been told the same also.

Taking a deeper look at things, IMO, is that poor people are stilll having children, joblessness and no incentives will take care of the rest. No country in the world is immune from this current symptom.

What people who are financially stable and in fear of risking that for a family don't realize is that you can't eat money and money does not hold your hand and look at you with loving eyes and promises to take care of you when you get old.

Yup, something is very wrong here, but who's got the solution... or the structure that cares enough to do something about it.

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_9_16.gif In India and Pakistan you find dead newborn babies (mostly female) in backstreets every day because they are of no future 'benefit' to the family... go figure.

I personally am of the opinion that people who can't afford their kids without welfare shouldn't have them. There are PLENTY of people who want to adopt.

Welfare should be a short term, emergency only solution. Not a way of life.

It drives me crazy that people can get welfare to take care of their kids, but I can't get welfare to HAVE kids (infertility treatment costs more than a car, you know). So why should I have to pay for OTHER people's kids, when I can't even have one myself? How is THAT fair?

I am personally of the opinion that aside from Social Security, help for the mentally ill, and birth control--ALL other forms of welfare should be stopped. It's a harsh solution, but frankly--birth control is next to free (in the US, anyway) and maybe if people had to watch their kids starve in the streets, a few things would happen.

    1. People would be MUCH more careful about sex.
    2. The family unit would have a comeback--if you had to depend on your family for help, stupid family politics wouldn't drive as many families apart.
    3. Religion would start playing a more active role in people's lives, as churches are a great way to get help when you're down on your luck
    4. Education would become a more desired commodity if you knew you didn't have the state to fall back on when your job at McDonald's doesn't pay the rent.

Make education mandatory to get any kind of state help--at LEAST a high school diploma. Make it harder to be a single parent so that fewer people played with the fire that casual sex is. Make it so that my tax dollars make people worthwhile citizens, rather than baby-making machines who can afford the same things I can with less education and a lower paying job.

A cell phone, cable TV (heck, ANY TV!), a computer, a DVD player, a stereo--these are all non-essential things that people getting welfare still have. I would even argue that a car is not essential in large cities with public transportation.

I'm so tired of people believing that they are entitled to these sorts of perks, even when they are on public assistance.

And while money can't look at you lovingly, or feed you, or hold your hand, or snuggle with you--if you can't afford to feed and house your kids, you really don't deserve to HAVE kids.

Holy Crap Synn, I love the way you think!
I agree with everything you have said here.
People need to stand proud, proud of themselves for accomplishing things on their own! No hand outs please! Thank you very much! ;)

Start.. I agree with you and Synn!!!

The only thing I would leave out is #4 - for personal reasons. Also, look at how many religions advocate no sex unless you plan on having children, even if you can't feed them. In this little town I live in, a catholic couple was told they cannot share a bed because the wife had to have a hysterectomy after producing 6 children.. Oh, and by the way, they live on welfare too. One of the kids is a 15 yr old girl now living with her boyfriend because she's also PG... their place is funded by the welfare department. Need I say more?

I worked over 30 years, raised a daughter on my own, was always too proud to ask for financial help... Due to illness I can no longer work and need help. To receive help, I would have to give up my big TV, DVD player, china, and most all other material things I earned while working... That sounds fair - doesn't it.(so I'm giving it all away to my daughter and others - before I give it to the state or a stranger).. Another nice thing about this is that I would have to move because my apartment is two square meters larger than what is allotted a single individual applying for financial assistance. I sure hope my retirement comes through soon. So now it's a race between my cancer and medical retirement - one is certain to win and the bets are still on. Sometimes beurocracy grows slower than disease, but only when you want something from them.

Sorry for venting out a bit too much Mag.. but I just 'had to say it'!

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_126.giffor listening. Life is a bowl of cherries, mine just has more pitts in it lately.

Gosh, Chery--I'm glad you knew what I meant!

I certainly don't want people who worked hard their whole lives put out on the street for lack of finances! And I would think that a disease would count as an emergency use, not as a "could have been prevented by using common sense" use.

You know I love you, and pray for you daily! I'm glad you understood what I meant, and didn't take it exactly the way it came out!

Man I am really bummed out. Evil Knievel died today. I don't care what anybody says about his attempted jump over the Snake River Canyon. They say he chickened out. I live about a half a mile from the exact spot that he went over. The dirt ramp is still there. You can't walk up to the edge without feeling like it will suck you over. It is SCARY! Deep and wide. People come from all over to jump and commit suicide. It is legal to base jump from the bridge. Evil was a wild dude man. All you got to do is walk up to the canyon and you will see what I mean. Here's to you Evil! That was one hell of a jump and it took Humongo Cahones to even try it man!

Evil Knievel was in constant search for a challenge and will never be forgotten. I don't think there was ever a chicken feather on that man. Some might think he was a bit nuts, but at least he lived his life and dreamed his dreams.

I really think baloney is my favorite word in the whole wide world. Too bad Spam is my favorite meat. Baloney is my second favorite meat. If baloney were my favorite meat, my favorite word and meat would be baloney. I don't know many people whose favorite word and favorite meat are the same so if it were, balony my favorite meat I mean... no, I can't abandon Spam like that. I love Spam but my favorite word is not Spam and for that I feel soooo guilty. Now do you see the turmoil and anguish I live with every day?

No matter what his motive was here, I liked it.

Physics is the word he used. I use EVOLUTION.. and each species has to go through it to survive, even in the 21st century. We are not to blame for this we are just involved because we exist now. So if I had the choice, I would let the next spaceship beam me up.

The power moguls and industrialists are having a field day now, but they cannot stop evolution either. Bigger monsters have tried - remember the dinos? When the mountains move, water rises, climate changes, what can we do?? Adjust, adapt, or become extinct - period. No amount of money, bans, or taxes will make any difference, IMO.

Mother Nature is finished playing with Parkay now, she's got a bigger project to work on and she will win in the end.
