I understand.. 6 degrees... you have to take care of your own family first and foremost...

Maybe you could get her to pay in installments instead of all of it in one go

I am going to ask if that will help, she is going to come over and eat and hang out here tonight I think? But if she doesn't I will send Davy over with a big ole pot of hot soup... and maybe homemade garlic bread...
Now the mention of garlic bread has to pull Firmy out of where ever she is... LMAO!

A good idea Albear, that may help.

But if she is having problems with even getting heat and food, it is probably a drastic situation.

Start, several things here; 1. If she is going through a divorce and she has the children then suggest to her that she should have her lawyer go to court and get emergency money from her husband. He is still responsible in the eyes of the courts. 2. Try to find out exactly what her situation presently is "getting paid under the table by her Dad." Even if she is, it is a different situation with family. Any money that she is getting from him, even if she is working for him, can be described as a gift from family and not considered income. Then she can get the seriously needed money from Social Services (Family Services). That is what they are there for.

Sage advice! If you don't take care of yourself, you can't take care of others!

This saddens my heart to hear about these situations, always has. Her husband, still is until the divorce, should be taking his responsibility here... this sucks. Is he only concerned about himself... possibly why this happened in the first place! I would definitely go after his as~ now. He will always have a responsibility for those children that HE brought into this world.he should step up, regardless of how he feels about her.

Just a quick hello to everyone.

Start, I'm sorry for your situation, but Your family comes first.
    I don't know the lady,
But I think if someone was in a situation that resorted in essential heat being shut off,
They should be looking for assistance in other areas instead of stiffing the babysitter...

Honey you have a big huge heart, and that is a wonderful quality to have,
But let me just say that there are people who will use that to their advantage and to your disadvantage.
You are running a business, and business relationships should be kept separated from friendship relationships.
It's too easy to get stuck in their "feel sorry for me" guilt trips which I can already sense you're feeling.

Are you sure everything she's telling you is the truth... think about that...
Just the very little you explained sounds fishy to me...
No church or government assistance program is going to let a struggling mother go without heat...
And getting paid under the table?? puts her over the limit for assistance??
Like she reports it?? Isn't that the whole purpose of being paid under the table... so that you don't have to report it...

Just care a lot about you start and don't want to see anyone walking all over you dear... I'm not trying to be negative... Me loves Ya!

Nowwhat said it good:D you are not running a charity, you are running a business to provide for your family...
