They producers say that we'll forget two third of what we learn in formal education within a single year of discontinuing that formatted learning...

Lesson learned: never let your brain rest, or clearly it will rust...

Does anyone have access to an average fifth grader so that we can scientifically estimate the accuracy of this test?

It's not about the fifth grader... it's more a reflection on us grown-ups...

The kid's were baffled.. and she didn't know the length of a yard...!

I don't understand how the site could reflect whether we're "smarter than a 5th grader", when a fifth grader would get more answers wrong!

The point they are making, humorously, is that stuff we were taught when we were young, not used in years, while common to a fifth grader, is lost on some who have taken on the adult world. Too much gets put between what we learned in school and what we use daily. I never thought I'd use geometry once I graduated, but in my life now, math shows up daily...

We love the show here, makes for great laughs when hubby and I don't know the answer but our kindergartener or 8th grader do know the answer.

I suffer from occasional blonde root syndrome myself. :p

It's typically an acute illness that, over time, if experienced often, can become chronic.

Maybe occasionally, but you're not chronic yet... LOL

I'm a great fan of Jeff.. no matter what he does.

I would not have been able to stay collected in this show.

When she said she had this in chemistry class, I burst out so loud that I woke my BF.

There is a show like this on german TV, brand new to their standards, but I was not tuned in.. This one certainly takes the cake.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_7.gifHmm. Wonder what she does in the kitchen when reading a recipe book...

I would have gotten that question wrong too. I've never been taught how many feet in a yard.

    (I guessed 4, not bad? :P)

You are on the metric system Capuchin. That's why you got it wrong. Any adult here in the States should know that there are 3 feet in a yard, and she guessed 350 something? Gimme a break the woman was not just a flake, she was a full blown blizzard.

We're not on the metric system. (don't rant at me again). A news report from yesterday: BBC NEWS | UK | EU gives up on 'metric Britain'

Ohhh, a little sensitive are we? Sheesh.

I don't particularly have time to pay attention to my local news let alone news in the UK.

It's not really news, Britain has always been imperial. I just pointed to the report as evidence. :(

    Brrrrrr, it's getting colder...

I read to kids a lot. I use encyclopedias with a lot of pictures... the pictures are for them, but the text helps me refresh my knowledge. My favorites are the old 1976 Bicentennial editions.. lots of pictures there. Content has nothing new to me, but all new to them -we all come out winning something.

Either that or I've got a twin out there...

    Which would be super..

    Or, a clone..

Which would be OK too as long as education level is beyond 5th grade..
