There are basically two ways to earn money on the Net:

1) Sell something
2) Sell advertising

If you have a popular site with a lot of hits, then you can either sell advertising on the site or use something like Google Adsense to earn money from click throughs.

I have a family member, that makes her entire living off selling hand made dresses for children online, though sites like EBAY.

I have several friends that sell insurance over the internet, now they are connected to a company, and the computer connects them to people who click for information and they operate as live service reps.

Another friend is a web designer.

It all depends on your skill and how much work you want to do
