    AOL Connectivity
Hi, I've been having an issue with AOL 9.0 Security Edition. For some reason over the past month I have been getting kicked off it constantly. At first it happened infrequently but now it happens ever few minutes and is to the point where it is not usable at all. I had no issues before the past month using it and the only new thing that I have downloaded was the updated version of the anti-vir scan. I've already tried many things to include the one step fixes, AOL quick restore, un-installed and re-installed the AOL software (2 different versions) and nothing has fixed the problem.

My computer is a Dell and uses Windows 2000. And I know a lot of you don't like AOL but it is what I have been using for the longest time and am comfortable with so I want to keep it. I appreciate any help that you can provide me in this matter.

    My best regards,
    Ed

You left out one important piece of info. How you connect? Dialup, broadband what?

I knew I forgot to mention something. I connect using dial-up. And there was one mistake in my first message, I had downloaded the newest version of avast not anti-vir. Sorry about that.

Have you tried a different access number? Could be a problem on the one you are using. When you are disconnected, there is usually a message on the logoff screen explaining (at least partially) what happened. You might also consider having the phone company check your line, something may have degraded it or added noise to it.

Yes I have tried different access numbers and none work. I will have to get in touch with the phone company to try and see if there is an issue with the line. Thanks.

I called my phone company and there seems to be nothing wrong with the line. I also switched lines in case there was something that they didn't detect but I am still having this problem. I'm getting DSL on Tuesday but I don't know if that will help eleviate the problem or not. Right now I'm starting to think it is something within my PC that is not working but I am not having any problems with anything else on it. So I am once again lost as to what this issue might be.

If you are using dialup and getting kicked off, its most likely because something is interrupting the call. Since DSL doesn't require a "a call" it probably will solve the problem.
