These are the current rates for getting a passport in Ghana.
50,000 cedis (US $6.25) - Waiting Period: 1 month. (This is the "official" rate.)
500,000 cedis (US $62.50) - Waiting Period: 1 week.
1,000,000 cedis (US $125) - Waiting Period: 1 day.

Hello Richard, Now you may live there and just want to come to the US,

But let me guess, you meet a wonderful lady online, perhaps a dating service like Yahoo personals, or maybe one of the others, and I know, she loves you just for you.

But guess what she needs a passport ( then it will be a visa) and she needs 300 or 500 or 1000 dollars to get it, Next of course she will need air fare, and then money to bribe some inspector, but guess what, her passport will be taken by the authorities and she will need $$$$ to get it back.

If you go to the US embassy web site for Ghana, you will find more info about warning you, than you will anything else.

Please do not fall for this, they have rooms full of ladies and guess what some men, who do nothing but pretend to be pretty ladies, many use the same photos of daughters, or granddaughters, or just some pretty girl they know. But some may even be pretty girls.

If you want to know for sure, don't send them a penny but you travel there to meet her first and agree to arrange her paper work when you are there for her.

The exact cost as of January 1, 2008 is $131.00 USD plus he/she may have to get a border crossing card (I'm not too sure who has to get these) which may be another $131.00

If someone wants to come visit you from Ghana and is asking for significantly more than this and you don't know them personally it's probably a scam, this is a very common scam right now
