Ok I am going into grade nine this September, I don't know about the states, but here in Canada, High school starts in grade nine. Anyway, I am worried about the older grades initiating me, what they do is write "niner" on your face with permanent marker. My sister says to have fun with and let them do it, my other sister says it might happen or might not and one of the guys who works at the school says that it won't happen and if it does, don't let them do it. What should I do if it does happen? Im so confused!:(

Hey, yeah 9th grade is the start of high school in the U.S. too (we call it Jr. High, but that doesn't mean anything). There is one of two things you can do.

1)If you don't want it done to you, don't attract any attention. I mean, be yourself, but don't put yourself out there for the entire school to see. You've probably seen this before--there's a new group of people and there's always a few people who stick out because they're always acting goofy or they're loud, etc. Stay away from those people and don't do that stuff, but spend a lot of time in company with one or two of your other friends (hazzing usually happens to those who get separated from the group). Another thing you can do is befriend someone one grade or more higher than your's.

2)If you don't mind having that done to you, don't worry about it. Again, don't attract attention to yourself, but just live your life and do whatever you were going to do that day (really, don't worry about it). If it does happen to you, put up something of a fight. Let them know that you're not just going to take it lying down, so to speak. They MIGHT hit you back in addition to writing that on your face, BUT you will have gained the reputation of being someone that you don't just mess with, and you'll be less likely to get anyone bothering you in the future.
