Hello,

I have a trane TWR024C100A1 heat pump, outside unit that today when I turned the a/c on the air would not blow cold.

I check the wiring inside of the honeywell thermostat and it is wired properly.

When I went out back to look at the heat pump it sounded like the fan was stuck so I gave it a nudge and it started and is still running.

Last year I replaced the compacitor.

The fan is still running but it doesn't sound like the compressor is and the air in the house is not cold.

Help please house is too hot?

OK there are a number of things that could have happened.

The compasitor may have went out again, that is why the compressor is not running. Or the fan motor is going bad and did not start causing the compressor to over heat. The compressor may have locked out on inturnal overload from being too hot.

Do you have a volt meter?

No I don't

Should I turn the unit off for a while to see it it will cool down?

One other thing I know that one of the lines should be cold to the touch but the are both just warm. Is that also because the compressor is not running?

Yes what you can do is turn the power off and spray the compressor with a garden hose to cool it down faster. And I would check the capasitor it is if it is swollen or busted.

Yes, with the compressor not running both lines will feel the same temp and the air coming off the fan will not be hot.

Ok I'll shut it off and hose it down, how long should I wait before trying it again?

After you soak it for a couple of good minutes I would let it dry back out for 15 minutes or so before you turn the breaker back on.

On a trane unit you may have to take the plastic top off the unit to get water to the compressor. I believe it just snaps on.

Well I gave a good rinse with the hose and waited a little while before I turned it back on. After I turned it back on it took about 3 minutes before I heard anything at the heatpump. I heard something click as if the motor was engaging but the fan didn't spin nor did the compressor come on.

I turned it back off rinsed it off again and am going to wait 30 minutes this time. If I had nudged the fan it would have came on.

If neither on came on I would take the side pannel off and inspect the capasitor.

I looked at it earlier its not corroded, nor swollen it actually still looks brand new.

OK, then the probem my just be with your fan motor then

Does the fan motor control the compressor?

No, but the compress may still be out on overload, does it hum or do anything?

Well the motor just burnt up

That's not good, I would say your compressor will be fine if you get a new motor

Well I replaced the motor but still does not work. They gave me a new compacitor but its doesn't look the same. My old one had 3 prongs and this one only has two will that work?

Ok I replaced the capacitor and now the fan works but I'm not sure that I have everything wired up correct.

From the new motor

Black, White, and brown
Spliced into
Black, red, yellow w/brown stripe

I now have two capacitors
35/5 440volt Red wire on the "C"
5mfd.370 volt w/ yellow w/black strip and Orange on it.

Is this correct because it doesn't sound like the compressor is working?

How many wires does your new motor have?

I`m hoping yo didn`t try to replace the original capicitor with the one they sold you with the motor,, the new one should have been only for the new motor and the original left in place for the compressor to operate off,,

You should have 2 wires on the new compasitor and 3 on the old.
