Central air system won't blow warm air
I have a central air system that won't blow warm air. I'm wondering if I need a new thermostat.

Right now, I have a White Rodgers 1F86-344. The fan works when in the 'on' position, but not in the 'auto' position. Also, 'cool' works, but not 'heat.' When I turn up the temp, I hear the click, but then nothing happens.

Also, I just so happened to have a Braeburn model 3000, still in the box. Is it compatible with the White Rodgers?

I am grateful for any help I can get.

What brand is your system? Is it a heat pump or a gas furnace?

    It's an American Standard YCY036F1HOAC.

OK, do you have gas heat? Or elecric? Is the click form the t-stat or the furnace area?

Thank you so much for your patience. I know mortgages, not AC stuff.

The heat is gas. The click is coming from the tstat. If I put it on 'cool' it blows. When I switch it over to heat, it cuts off after a couple of minutes. It was working fine yesterday.

Ok if you would like I should be here for a few I can help you to find the problem. Can you get to your furnace? If so turn it on at the t-stat the go back and take the door off the furnace at the bottom there should be a flashing light in a sight glass. This will tell us the fault code for your furnace problem

Ok let me know what you find. Also does your furnace vent with plastic or metal pipe?

I guess the furnace is built into the outside unit. There's metal piping.

There's also a little exhaust looking thing that is blowing slowly. No fan, though unless I turn fan on on tstat

Ok if you turn the power switch off usually on the side of the furnace, like a light switch then wait 10 seconds then back on you can watch and see what is happing. The little exoust blower should come on first. Then you should see a red glow or hear a sparking noise for the flame. Then the flame should light. Then after about 1 min the blower should come on. I need to see what step is not working. Did you see a flashing light of any sort?

I'm not even sure which door to take off. Do you have schematics for my model?
  • Apr 6, 2009, 07:06 AM
    Joshdta

There should be 2 doors the upper where the little exoust blower is and the bottom doo should have a control board and blower motor. The schematics should be on the back of the door I am looking up you model now

So far have not been able to locate you model number yet is that the indoor or the outdoor number?
  • Apr 6, 2009, 07:15 AM
    taylor010

Can you get me the number for the indoor unit?

This is the number on the outside, labeled 'model number.' Is there another one somewhere?

    Joshdta

Sorry, I am still trying to locate anything on the number you gave me. Did you have to take a door off the inside unit to see the exoust blower?
  • Apr 6, 2009, 07:52 AM
    taylor010

There is no inside unit. It's a combo with the furnace inside the unit

If it is a package unit out side the piloit probably needs cleaned that is what would keep it from lighting. If you take the door off where the gas line goes in you can see the burners and when it is running you should be able to here the sparker sparking. If it is not sparking then you my have a control problem. If it is sparking I would say the piloit assemble needs cleaned
