Good luck with Goodman on warranty. Keep a extra ignitor on hand you will need it. If you ask them why it burns out so quickly they say I don't know. Im not a goodman dealer but I have to work on them. They do not stand behind the product. Good luck.

Thanks for all of your help guys. I threw in the new mini ignitor conversion kit and it's working okay. It sucks that goodman is a bad brand, I'll order a few ignitors online. Happy heating.

Just wanted to put in my two cents here... I don't know what the norm is, but I have a Goodman gas furnace (heat & ac), which is approx. 12 yrs old. About 2 weeks ago, I had the first problem that I've had with it since it's been installed. I've never replaced the ignitor on it, and other than routine maintenance checks, (I did once have a new thermostat put in) have been completely satisfied. I have decided to replace it in the next week or so, with a newer model, and will be going back with Goodman.

Matter of fact, my mother next door, also has a Goodman, and I don't recall her having any problems with hers, either. I think it's about 5 yrs old.

I don't know of any brands that have an ignitor last more than 6 years, even the new smart ignition systems last only 8 in good environments. This is excluding cardon and 24 volt ignitors, they are getting better.

I'm not a furnace expert, by any means.. but unless it's replacement is part of routine maintanence, mine has never been replaced. I did have the furnace serviced every year, before using it, so I guess it's entirely possible that the ignitor was replaced at some point... but if so, I don't remember it, and I've never had an incidence of the furnace failing.

Sounds like you have a good service company on your side. As with all modern furnace the key is routine maintenance. A good service tech should know where potential problems lie and address them before your furnace leaves you in the cold.
