I would think that a carrier supply house would get me the correct motor

Look on the back of the door, the wiring diagram will be there you can see how many wires came off the old motor and where they go.

It may be the correct replacement, even if it isn't identical to the original. Sometimes change is good.

Kc you probably do more with carrier then me, do they have package units with 2 speed motors?

I have never seen a 2 speed fan on a package unit. Did you find the wire diagram on the back of the door?

Not that I have seen, but some have a capacitor wired as such: brown to CAP1, yellow + L1 to CAP2, purple to L2. I have seen others with yellow & purple reversed.

I am looking at it now
The fan says that it is 23 volt
    60 htz
    3450 Rpm
    1/16 HP
    And made by AO smith

    The diag has
    v10
    Yel
    Brn
    Green
    Leaving the capacitor

If it has just 1 rpm listed it is not 2 speed. If you have 2 that go to the cap, then you only have 1 left. No common that way.

Is there a purple wire anywhere on that diagram?

I can't believe I forgot and this might help you guys
There is a cord that has blue white and red running into a female end that plugs into the mother board.

    No not that I see
    What is V10 (power?)
  • Nov 18, 2009, 05:28 PM

OK so you have a blue and a white. That plug to the board? That should be the power. Then the yellow and the purple should go to the cap. And the green is ground.

Yes I am with you know
There is a yellow running to the cap already not the one from the fan... so an additional yellow and the brown go to the cap.
