Bryant Thermostat Has Intermittent Blank Display
I have a Bryant Furnace with the Bryant thermostat that came with the unit. This is a non-programmable thermostat and is powered by electric (no battery power). The problem is intermittent but while the furnace is running sometimes there is no display on the thermostat. Pressing the up/down tempature settings do not bring the display back automatically. After a few minutes the display will come back and then it will display HC for a moment and then display the current room tempature.

I don't want to call a furnace repair man to find out it is a simple fix on my end. Any adivse appreciated.

The model number of the furnace is CK5BXA030014AAAA

Sounds like the thermostat coule be bad, Try to reset by turning off the main electric power to your furnace for a few minutes then turn back on. If it does not reset it is probably a defective stst.

If this is a new thermostat then it may be that there is no common wire to the thermostat, this problem would only show up in the heating mode if this is the problem, look at the wires on the back of the thermostat, you should have at least five wires, one of these would be a common and connected to the "C" terminal. Good luck, Mike

If a limit switch opens in the heating mode it kills 24volts going to the system(making the T-stat go blank) The blower will be the only thing on at that time. The way you describe it, it sounds like the main limit is opening up and resetting after it cools off. Check for restricted air flow-- Dirty return air filter, dirty or restricted blower wheel inside furnace, make sure all your supply vents are open not restricting the air flow. Good luck.

T-Top, Thanks for the description above, it save us $550. Our Bryant Thermostat display had been going blank, called service and they recommended replacing the unit. Opened all the register vents, adjusted the filter and problem is solved. Thanks again.
