Have a great 4th for everyone who celebrates! :D
All I can do is wait. :)pace....:)pace...:)pace...
I sent the PM last evening 'bout 10pm edt Fri. that would have been 03:00Z Sat. which made your time, noon Sat. if your near Sydney.
Ahh... What time is it again?
Yes it is! I've never had one take off like this!
Its not the weeds we're concerned 'bout

1.) We need to establish the meaning of asexual.
Asexual
Dictionary: a·sex·u·al (ā-sĕk'shū-əl) adjective
1.Having no evident sex or sex organs; sexless.
2.Relating to, produced by, or involving reproduction that occurs without the union of male and female gametes, as in binary fission or budding.
3.Lacking interest in or desire for sex.
Asexuality a·sex'u·al'i·ty (-ăl'ĭ-tē) n.
Asexually a·sex'u·al·ly adv.
For the purposes of this discussion I shall stay with this one.
As applied to propagation, indicates any method of increasing plants except by seeds, such as by cuttings, layering, or division.
Gardener's Dictionary: asexual
2.) is there a male and female tomato plant
Technically, the tomato is hermaphroditic which means that both male and female parts exist in the same flower. Plant Answers
There is a female-sterile plant that scientist are working with to produce fruit.
A FEMALE-STERILE MUTANT IN THE TOMATO -- HONMA and PHATAK 55 (3): 143 -- Journal of Heredity
Through Human intervention, mutations can, and do occur that result in sterile, but healthy blossoms of each.
There is genetic research being done to see if plants of this type can be made to produce fruit.
Wiley InterScience
Natural intervention does happen, but at a rate that is difficult for anyone but a scientist to observe.
Now that we have established a baseline, I can answer your questions
Are there male and female tomato plants?
Yes
Are they asexual?
Using the first definitions #1 and #3 No.
Using #2 and the Gardeners Dictionary Yes, because tomatoes can be propagated as mentioned in the Gardeners Dictionary.
I take no responsibility if the server edits any of this post. That's its job.

Thread now a sticky as it's very interesting.

It worked this time, so you have the comments on the previous post.:)
The red one has no spots, it was a reflection.
I have the first red (sorta) tomato, but it's not on a UDT, so I don't win:(
Hi! Just Dahlia... I was wondering who that was with the camera. :)
Your quite right that is Sun scald, half way down left center. See:
Green Fruit Disorders - Tomato Problem Solver | Aggie Horticulture
Only the Admin can do that, but if the edit button is still there on the post you want to delete you could go back and attach another pix of more toms...
- Click edit
- Then go advanced
- cut everything there
- attach new pix, you might have to add text
- or type new message
- Click save
Never fear!.

Hi! Everyone :)
Just a couple of things this morning.
Was thinking 'bout the asexual post and pollination, for now I'm giving the fruit stems a little shake to observe if it will produce more... more on Friday.
Found a Salsa recipe... It's Fiesta Time
And just curious 'bout this mushroom, every morning it sprouts, grows to a little under 2" then dies off at night only to start over again the next day.
Wow, that was some reception last night for Dr. Dahlia!
I would have stayed later, but had to get Eddie to the airport, glad I stuck to the Bloody Mary's... sans alcohol.
K
Congrats to JD... and K... what location exactally are you in. it could help me narrow down which mushroom that is for you. Mind you I mean the state you reside in and if it is In the northern, southern, eastern or western portion of the state and I don't mean your exact location. Wouldn't need much more then the state though maybe now that I think about it
I know nothing about mushrooms, except for the ones you eat and buy at the local grocer. I didn't even know that they died at night and could sprout that fast, I just always thought field mushrooms were beautiful and intriguing.
But, I am remiss with my speech, must have been those Bloody Marys KUXJ was sharing. I think he put something in mine.
::clears throat::
I'd like to thank...
*First of all the weather, even though it was not predictable as it usually is, with out weather we have nothing.
*I would like to thank Lowe's for the 'pot' in which MAMA MIA has been living her life
*I really need to thank my 'hoarding' gene for saving the Miracle Grow for Tomatoes for years and my organizational skills for being able to find said Miracle Grow.
*My dogs for not digging up the plants
*and of course KUXJ, Binx44 for info and support through the many problems that have occurred
And who am I forgetting:rolleyes:
Oh yeah... Tick, Shaz and JMjoseph for their interest and recipe.
If I have forgotten anyone I apologize, it must be the Bloody Marys!
If you stop to think 'bout it, Mother Nature started “Location... Location... Location... She just never bragged 'bout it.
- Pennsylvania
- According to local lore “South Central"
- Southeast corner of South Central location
- Been growing in woody tanbark
- pix were taken 72 minutes apart
- I'd give you the Google Earth Co-ordinates, but then I'd have to dispose of the body
- suffice it to say 40N ~ 77W
- 'shrooms are circled, will have to make thicker next time
- "I" think I smell another diploma.
Some of the fastest growers on the Planet. Ran into morels 3weeks ago (shhh....secret spot...sneek 'round.....sneek 'round) Delicious!
Wild About Mushrooms: Morels My sentiments exactly.
Hear! Hear! Well Said!
Applause!! Applause!! Applause!! Applause!!
Well... We couldn't find Celery stalks, and even though my new found 'shrooms look like parasols, I told Eddie, “Don't put them in the drinks!” He does mean well.
Don't feel bad, I'm wearin' the Foster Grants too.
Usually on a forum, writings that are contained in “Quotes” as in “Quote User” are similar to an image, and the server holds that image until it recognizes additional text outside of the boundaries of the “Quote Brackets”. Either [ or ]
A member is still allowed to modify the interior of that image, but again, the server is holding that “Image” until it “sees” additional input.
By the way... I liked what you were trying to do. :)
There is another technique called “Nested Quotes” an example is in/on UDT Page 17 ~ Post 163 .
https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/garden...352932-17.html
If you would like to see how that works, click on "Quote User" and study the code presented.
Well... gotta get going, the Sun's goin' down, got things to do.
Think my verbena has aphids ( got the dreaded "cottony mass" see pix) did spray with soapy water mix and moved 'em... time will tell...
Ketch Ya later :) k
Pictures of 'shroom's are on the top of page 18. Though I am not sure where this other photo K is talking about is... *thinks it got eaten by the computer post monsters*
K why thanks for saying you liked what I was trying to do :D hehe so did I until it didn't like me. Not hard to add a little text though. Will start searching my books for your mysterious super speed growth 'shrooms :D and will get back to you. I'm pretty sure I've seen a pix of them before while flipping through looking for edible varietys (yum yum I love mushrooms) Only thing with mushrooms though is that you should always be 100% sure of what your looking at before even touching it because some carry toxins that can be absorbed through your skin and effect you not just intruducing toxins through digestion of said 'shroom
Yea, I know I downloaded them, I'll try again, check bottom of page... ↓
I thinks your right. Your welcome, Yes, I've seen them before to, and your "Dead Right" 'bout that last comment!
Looks like it worked this time. I checked the verbena tried rubbin the "mass" away, but didn't move, mite be "Sun scald"
You can see the yellow circles better in the V pix, barely in the 'shrooms. Again 'shroom pix 72minutes apart.
K
You guys are too computer intelligent for me, I feel like a dunce.:(
I will continue with my regular posts and be proud if I can download something. :D
I have more pink-esh tomatoes!:D
Deb
Proving I can grow something without a infection and download the pic... Attachment 21753
