    Anything that would provide cover from the high temps will help. It also helps if you create an air layer between the container and insulating material.
    An example:
    • surround, but leave a 1 or 2" inch space away from the container with ½ to ¾" hardware cloth.
    • http://icwdm.org/Images/voles/hardwarecloth.jpg
    • Cover cloth with 2" of compost, adobe, newsprint or even concrete thats only wet enough
      to mold around cage, but don't forget concrete will get heavy.
    • Have similar, but larger cage ready to place around original structure.
      to hold the material you choose, in place.
    • Keep saturated with water before it dries out.
    • Optional tube in top for direct watering of plant
    • After thinking 'bout it. this a reverse zeer pot. In a real zp all sides are touching,
      I'll have to experiment to see how efficient this design is.

    That's what's interesting, I don't know. Although it's possible some type of organism has started its life, and is creating a symbiotic relationship with the cutting.
    My reference to tube worms came from the observation of the fronds or antennae waifing in the currents of the water jug.

    Are they OK for the plant?
    Only further observation will tell that story.

    LOL sorry I didn't catch the slang been a bit tired this week. Sunday I took a 16 km (there and back) hike to cape split
    Cape Split Trail - NovaTrails.com
    Took me four hours and twenty minutes. And I've split, moved and stacked nine cord of wood in the last two days..

    I do hope the tomatoes taste as good as they look *drools*

    Ahh... Don't sweat it.
    I've always enjoyed hikes like that. The DW and me spent hours on Mt. Desert Island, in Maine exploring the coastline. If I can find the pix, I'll post one of me down on one of those house size boulders.
    Now, where did you say you threw that rock? See pix...

    That pic sure looks like cape split.. I don't know the latitude and longitude of it so I'm going on the assumption that that's what it is. (sure looks like cape split) we were right out on the tip. I've got pictures.. can give you the link for my album on Facebook if you'd like to see the hike.

    I sure hope 9 cord is enough... if its not... I'm so not the one who's going to be doing it..

    With my retirement from the rat race I wanted to ease back in slowly, so BB's an only child. If you look Here post #10, it will give the particulars.
    I also have Banana and Green peppers that need harvesting. Plus a yellow squash that's just starting to fruit, because of limited flying pollinators (Bees). This area of Central Pa. got hit hard by Colony Collapse Disorder.
    I am used to gardens a little bit bigger than JD's, but smaller than jmjoseph's.

    I have my site up, but it needs a lot of work. I haven't been there for three years and all I did today was just, to check it out.

    So... If you wouldn't mind, go over there an beat it up, and let me know how it works.
    I am a little disappointed... The SIGHTS and SOUNDS page shows a player with "Whale Sounds" when I'm Editing, but not when its published.

    If your wondering 'bout the title... "S" is the beginning of my first name, "K" my DW, and "Y" is our surname. And hopefully while your "In Country" you will enjoy your stay.

    K,

    Love the page. Its coming out well so far. I see you have a picture and link for the SOHO site. Maybe a little writeup about light, solar occurrences and the implications might be nice to put in there.. or some more pictures. Love the one you have posted. Seen some real nice ones on the site too. Your Sights and Sounds Page. IS WORKING... the whale sounds are lovely... do you know what species of whale is the one singing on the track? I think adding animal (marine and/or land) sound bytes would be an amazing feature on there... After listening to the one I wanted to hear more :D

    Love how you have a comments/questions page. The barter/sale page is a nice touch. I like how you allow others to post to that too.
    Your credits page is a little blank "add content here" it looks a little lonely. LOL but all and all I think your doing awesome on it. The design of the page, the color scheme it all looks
    Wonderful. Though you have a link "http://www.spacecentre.no" that is under both science and astronomy.. you can't click on the link under the astronomy heading but you can click on it under the space heading. Feel free to talk to me about the site anytime.. id love to help you with anything I can..

    BTW.. how is the cutting doing in water now? Tube worm like thing still apparently making its home there?

    From This site:
    Wilderness Survival: Sea Survival - Seashores

    Worms
    Coastal worms are generally edible, but it is better to use them for fish bait. Avoid bristle worms that look like fuzzy caterpillars. Also avoid tubeworms that have sharp-edged tubes. Arrowworms, alias amphioxus, are not true worms. You find them in the sand and are excellent either fresh or dried.

    So... You mite want to have a few pre-cocktails :D

    News from the Bucket (nftb), July 31st, 2009 ~ Vol. I ~ Extra Edition I:XIV:

    As Mr Burns so eloquently put it.

    I have a little time before the DW and me get rollin' today, so I'm able to shoot You an Xtra.

    BB's pretty much slowed on the growth and has kicked in on ripening his fruit.
    Harvested two toms last week and there are two 'bout half way with three just starting.

    For next year I'm planning on 1 Determinate and at least two Indeterminate, if you recall the former ripens all at once, the latter slowly. BB's a latter.

    Could have used a bunch of toms last night as I was making hamburger goulash, and only had one can of Hunt's.

    Suppose ta rain pretty good today calling for 3/4” avg. I hope the worst holds off till the we're done today.

    what's that eddie?.....oh yea.....tube worms

    Still haven't found out what that growth is on BB's rooting, but it is getting larger.

    Ah.. I think I hear the DW stirring... Time for XoXoXo's

    ps... Head's up! Went to attach pixs and evil filemonster reared its head took 4x to finnaly get them in...

    See Ya 'round the compost pile!

    Yea they would, but since I left, and now, am back. Those damn copyright laws blew all of the free stuff “out'a the water”. It's harder to find, but its out there.

    You can't whale sight in N.S. :confused: com'on, there's got to be somehow... Otherwise you have to go down to Yarmouth for the Yarmouth to Bar Harbor - CAT Ferry
    For you, and DH round trip, that's $360US includes port & security fees + $50US for vehicle. Fuel surcharge not included. Don't forget Passports.

    There used to be several watchers in bar harbor, but they've since consolidated to this Bar Harbor Whale Watching Tours The Watcher we used is at this location. Their $15 cheaper now, but you don't get to be out as long (3.5hours, as compared to 5) that's the length of time your actually waiting in 'bout a 2 to 3 sq. mile area out in the Bay (Your 45miles out). It doesn't include travel time out an back.

    I wish I had more pix, but most everything is on video. That's us in the pix... (10years ago) There's a story behind the pix... It was humorous to me at the time, still is...
    As you wait to board the boat, the Co. insists they take pix of you, and people in line couldn't figure out why? You receive a small frige magnet, but don't have to take the “Deluxe Package” an added $50.

    Well... The one mate overheard me, when I told people around me “Its so, they have a pictorial record of everybody, in case the boat sinks.” As far as I'm concerned, It's a true statement, but no one from the Co. would confirm or deny... You should have seen the looks I got. I can still feel where Kathy kicked me in the leg. :eek:

    Maine Office of Tourism - Whale Watching Trips

    After I typed my novella 'bout our experience. I searched for Whale watching Nova Scotia

    So there you go...
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I dug a little deeper into my chest o' marks, and found out that it shouldn't take as long as it is for roots to develop. Four days tops and here I am two weeks later. I'm just starting to see actual roots.
    I still haven't been able to find out what that growth is, but Ill keep searchin'.
    I have one very icky tom plant right now, it is just doing nothing and turning to dust. I have one other (the one that I moved away from the others) that is producing toms and they look great except for the bottom half (Romas) are flat and brown. Half of the tom is perfect, but really small. I'm just going to cut them in half and use for salads.
    OK, That's it for me!
    Don't :cool: get caught :cool: in the :cool: Mosh pit :cool: unless you :cool: want to!
    And don't do anything I wouldn't..........EEK!
    What's that eddie? Oh yea....sez, if she does that she won't have any fun!
    :cool:
    I always liked thinking 'bout this poem when we started a trip.
    May your travels be safe.
    Sea Fever
    I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
    And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
    And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
    And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking.
    I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
    Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
    And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
    And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
    I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
    To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
    And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
    And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick is over.
    Hi! Everyone :)
    News from the Bucket (nftb), August 7th, 2009 ~ Vol. I ~ Edition XV:
    I thought that while I'm sitting here waiting my turn at Downloading Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 Professional for free, I'd work on this.
    BB's doing okay, has a few “old” leaves/stems coming along that I just go and pinch off, but as far as pruning goes I know I won't be doing that anymore.
    Observation, Reason?
    BB remains healthy, but he's not expanding his growth either in size or fruit set
    Fruit that is there, is okay and ripening but the production of fruit stems has ground to a halt.
    No matter what, I have to get Anak BB into dirt today.
    Observation, Reason?
    As you can see by the pix, real roots have started to form along with the tube worm fungus, and the foliage of Anak has started to turn purple
    Rainfall for the week at BBX 0.47” ~ KCXY 0.70”
    Next Chance of Showers, T-storms 20% Saturday into Sunday, Saturday night 30%
    Not sure if a lot or any have picked up on the most recent EL Nino' discussions, looks like our weather patterns will remain the same until the fall of 2010.
    It is now 12:23pm edt
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It is now 3:50pm edt

    Well... I finally finished with that Paragon (DL) Download...

    The reason I stopped with the NFTB, was because it took from ¼ to 9, to a ¼ after noon just to lock in to the DL server then the other 2hours an 52minutes to DL :mad:
    Now I don't have a screamer, an it's not a clunker either, I can usually do 119Meg in 'bout 10”.

    :( not sure if I'm ever going to go Christmas shopping with the world again. :(

    :) But it gave me time to get some things done, I did get Anak repotted, and there's a special surprise guest holding the new arrival, (for any of you that saw my members page pix, this new one is at least 10years later, and yes eddie, 'bout 40lbs heavier.....)

    (Maybe a contest? Guess Steve's weight?....maybe later.)

    Working on setting up a tile drain for the one side of the house, that's pretty much ready to charge into, and I cleared a short planter in the front so I can plant a Hibiscus there.
    End of season at the big blue box, cheap couldn't resist, hope I don't end up with poison from clearing out.

    Later when the DW comes home, I'm makin' stir-fry veggies with fresh bangers, on that covered up grill in the 'biscus pix, little this... little that... oh, its so good!

    See Ya 'round the compost pile!

    JD hope you had tons 'o fun :D

    I totally had a blast.. concert was sold out.. glad I got my tickets when they were first put out to sell... around 84,000 people showed up. Staying at the tribute campground was worth the 100 bucks in total for the both of us. Live DJ at the camping site.. played until 2 am the first night and noon to 6 the day of the concert

    From what we've heard and found out they might be retiring so maybe no more ac/dc ever... glad I went.
    First concert I've ever been to.. the crowd screaming, dancing, the bass pulsing through your body, I don't think anyone could stand still even if they were forced to. They played every old song I wanted them to... even 'whole lotta rosie" and "for those about to rock (we salute you)"

    K, WOW its roots sure grew a lot from the last picture I had seen... do you have a new closeup of the tube worm thingy ? :D
    UDT is looking good. Sad that its production is not increasing and its growth is not increasing... do you think the pruning was the cause of that?

    Doing drainage is never fun. I learned that when we had to replace all of our outdoor drainage around the house.

    OOO a Hibiscus.. pretty :D. how was the bbq?

    Very descriptive... Do know 'bout “sound pulses” aka “shock fronts”. But, are you sure you had a good time? :rolleyes:

    Sure did... naw... thingy disappeared as soon as I pulled it from the water.

    Yes it is :( ….purrty sure...

    With today's heat DW laid the law down...
    No outside activities, she doesn't want to see me lying in the lawn with the tractor runnin' circles 'round me.

    Neighbor reen gave us two “snow on the mountain's” and I got them in just before the storm front yesterday (63mph) they look a little droopy yet, but the 'biscus isn't doing too bad.

    Bbq was great! Saved you some, but you guys never showed... so I finished it. :)

    K, I did have a blast hehe I know I did... tis a sin that the worm disappeared.. you said before it was getting bigger... oo never heard of "snow on the mountain" will have to look it up...

    That's no good that the pruning is what stunted it :( I don't blame your DW for laying down the law. That's some hot... it's nice today.. raining though but about 21 c. was high 20's to low 30's in moncton during the concert though.. no sunburn :D I did good.
    Well I'm off to give the dog a shower (yes I said shower not bath.. he hates baths but loves showers... hmm what an odd dog... )
