JD read this, Selecting a Planting Site, If you've had problems with your toms:
    Growing Raspberries and Blackberries

I thought I knew most abbreviations, but what does TP stand for? Trellis??

Anyhow, the berry plants will need full Sun.

    Also:
How to grow your Blackberry Cane with pictures and advice.
Blackberries - growing Blackberries - how to grow Blackberries

I'm runnin' a day late for the nftb, I might get it posted today/tonight, then lets see 'bout your new thread.

    Hi! Everyone :)
News from the Bucket (nftb), September 26th, 2009 ~ Vol. I ~ Edition XX Part one of two:

My apologies on being late with this weeks nftb, I've been pretty busy...

Rainfall for the week at BBX 0.10” ~ KCXY 0.08”.
Next, chance of rain 100%, Today into Sunday afternoon. Possible 2.25”

High temps averaged 68°F ~ 20°C for the week, with a forecast average to go to 66°F ~ 18.8°C for next week. Lows 50°F ~ 10°C.

Early in the week I was down at neighbor Harry's, he had a Wind Turbine installed

    http://lh6.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/Sr...100_1597_1.JPG

And I'm putting a pictorial together for him, and his DW. I plan on uploading them to my web site, the page will be called “Alternative Energy”. That's him sitting by the corner of the house. I'll give you a high sign when it happens.

Thursday, I “think” I finished with trimmin' the trees, and shrubs 'round the property for this year. Yes, I have another load to go to the Twp. Dump.

Yesterday, after I mowed the lawn, eddie, and me had a quiet service, and laid BB to rest.
    http://lh6.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/Sr...0/100_1625.JPG

Sadness to see the end of the project, and the demise of one of God's creations, but happiness in all the fond memories that BB help create.

This pix shows the soil conditions:
    http://lh3.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/Sr...0/100_1626.JPG

    This one the root structure:
    http://lh6.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/Sr...0/100_1630.JPG

And this one the root structure against the sidewall of the bucket:
    http://lh3.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/Sr...0/100_1634.JPG

I think my original question, will the roots grow up or down? Has been answered.
They will grow up, but because of the hard pack present in the soil they had a hard time getting very far.

    End of part one...

    Hi! Everyone, welcome back :)

News from the Bucket (nftb), September 26th, 2009 ~ Vol. I ~ Edition XX Part two of two:

For Anak it's a different story, in that I was able to use more topsoil, and compost around the trunk when I transplanted it.

I've already taken one tom from Anak: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/Sr...0/100_1632.JPG

And this is his new home,The coppery colored soil that you see is just a topcoat/filler to finish up filling the bucket. : http://lh5.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/Sr...0/100_1636.JPG

Later on we're going over to the niece's, and DH house, I've been generously donated to replace their aging outside porch steps. Stringer's, and treads...

    Speaking of Stringer's...

One other item, for those of you that know Chery (relationship expert), but don't know she's in a bit of a bad way, and you would like to be included in a get well card that Stringer has proposed, see here; askmehelpdesk.com/other-family-people/chery-hospital

Stringer would like to mail it tomorrow so you still have a little time left.

See Ya 'round the compost pile!

    JD,
Eddie sez... The balloons will work perfectly, just let him know where you want 'em dropped off. Maybe an even trade for the Lilacs?

Eddie wants to talk to you an DH 'bout coming out to stay for the winter season. Says he's gettin' "too old for the cold" back here.

    Hi! Everyone :)

News from the Bucket (nftb), October 16th, 2009 ~ Vol. I ~ Edition XXIII:

Been a cold rain the last couple'a days, with temps in the upper 30's F ~ -1.1C. Average departure from normal -6.5°F ~ -21.4°C….. Brrrrr...

Rainfall for the week since 06:56edt Thursday morn, BBX 1.87” ~ KCXY 1.07”, presently lite drizzle, with a forecast of 2.25” by Sundown Sunday, highs to remain in the upper 30's lows to mid to lower 30's.

Yard and garden work has slowed considerably, with the emphasis on winterizing the few remaining outdoor plants.

I'm waiting for the weather to break so I can cut the lawn for the final time this season, then I have to get the tractor ready for winter, mainly swappin' out the mower deck (md) for the snow blade (sb), putting on the chains, and giving the tractor a winter tune-up.

I see binx44 stopped in for a visit. She's been pretty busy lately with her Forestry studies at University. She told me that last week she cut her first tree down, musta' been a big one because she sounded excited in relating the story to me.
She's doing well, and is busier than a one armed Logger with indoor and outdoor studies.

If any of you have seen my post # 22 in Just Dahlia's thread askmehelpdesk /gardening-plants/what-are-you-doing-to-prepare-for-next-season?

I'll be using the sb to grade the soil I commandeered :D from my neighbor Harry's windmill project. Its not the best tool for grading, but it still beats raking, and shoveling all of it. I'll see if I can post some pix in JD's thread.

    http://lh4.ggpht.com/_80cGISOzOds/St...0/100_1656.JPG

As you can see I had the majority of the soil dumped down near the wetlands, with a load closer to the driveway. With the recent rains it will be a lot harder to work the soil to where I'd like it :(

Well I got to go an get busy now, I'm swappin' out the door screens for storm windows, an there's one that I have to replace the screen... Ops! There's the Dw's alarm... gonna' help get her off to work to!

Eddie! There any coffee left?. Yea, just made a fresh pot!

See Ya 'round the compost pile!

The corner in the foreground between the driveway an the lane was always soft, so I'll be grading that out to raise it up.

There's still a lot of good soil down below, some of which will be finding its way into the garden for next year.
