Well slight crease in the Grand Plan.
It transpires that this plot doesn't actually belong to my house at all.
It was sold several years along to be redeveloped for housing.
The planning permission was refused on the grounds of access and services.
    It's laid dormant ever since.

No matter, just need to track down the owner and make him an offer to rent the plot off him. After all it's not earning him anything..

Not sure how open to the public your deeds are there. I can go online to check, most anywhere here in the States for ownership.

Check with the planning/zoning board to see if they know the owner. They should at least know the lot number, then take that to your recorder of deeds.

If you talk to him "nice" He may clear it for you. ;)
Or you get free use if you clear it.

But then there's that damn "Liability" issue.

    Cheers Ben

To borrow a line from the Yogi Berra-Aflac commercial:
"If you get hurt and miss work, it won't hurt to miss work."

The "Owner" may not want you on his property because you might get hurt using it. Who pays the doctor/hospital bills? His or Your Insurance?

I know your Insurance system is different than ours, I'm just going by what I know.

::Thinking out loud::....I just know this is going to open a can of worms.....

I got to get back outside... I'll check back in 'bout an hour or so...

    Oh THAT sort of liability.
    Well I practice Common Sense.
If I hurt myself then I only have me to blame, unless I find a large explosive device buried of course ;)

The UK has Social medicine, so accidents are covered in our pay deductions, called National Insurance.
Private medical only really covers elective procedures.
