Pizza box on wood coffee table
Well, as you can tell my the title, we did something stupid - we put a hot pizza box on the coffee table and we have a nice big stain. I've heard a steam iron will work; however, I don't own one. I've also heard toothpaste and ashes work; however, we don't smoke and we don't have a fireplace.

Any other suggestions? Thank you in advance.

New coffee table? Just kidding. Maybe some club soda or I've never tried this but try sanding it maybe.

Try mayonnaise - not the "light" kind but real mayonnaise (Hellman's is good). Real mayonnaise contains eggs, vinegar lemon juice etc. It gets lots of different stains out of wood furniture - even white rings caused by alcoholic beverages. Rub the mayonnaise into the stain and cover with a slightly damp paper towel to keep the mayonnaise from drying on the table. After about 30-45 minutesm, use a soft cloth to remove th mayonnaise (and hopefully the stain. You may have to try this cure mre than once. Once, the stain is gone, use a silightly damp soft cloth to remove any resjidue left by the mayonnaise and then use furniture polish with a dry soft cloth for buffing when done.

It would help in providing a helpful answer to you to know what kind of finish it is that is on your coffee table - Lacquer, varnish, polyurethane, oil, oil stain, shellac or other.

If it is some kind of clear finish that makes the wood look like it is covered by a finish, then I would suggest getting some 0000 steel wool and using some water or paint thinner as a lubricant and rubbing the area very lightly in the same direction as the grain. Do just a little bit at a time. Wipe excess lubricant away with a very soft paper towel or rag between tries, to see how much finish has been taken off and what it looks like.

It really would help to know what kind of finish is on the coffee table in order to give you a more helpful answer beyond what I have already suggested. Also, it would help to know if the color of the wood, stained or not, is dark, like mahogany or walnut. Or, light, like oak or birch.
