    Adding a screened porch/room
My husband & I are considering a screened porch to be attached (that's probably the only kind) to the house where there is a 10ft.x 18ft slab. It will be on the small side then, with a height just shy of 8ft. We are differing on the approx. cost. Before I call any companies... would anyone know what I should expect for the materials & installation?
Thanking you in advance on anything you might know about it.

You will probably run into a wide range of bids depending on the specs you prefer... like roof type, whether there will be a half wall below the screened in area, what type of screening and how it's mounted, etc.

For this type of job, the first bid I would get would be from the biggest most reputable contractor in the area - so that he can give you good suggestions on the above. Grill him good for options so that you can whittle the job down to specifics... then go shopping for bids from others to do it exactly as you want it.

Depending on the options above, I'm guessing it will fall between 5-10k.

Last year, we had a full add-on to our family room done for 14,000. It was 6'x18' but it included tyeing into the hvac and elec. System and a foundation outside... so I'd have to think yours will be far less since you don't need insulation, tie-is to your hvac system or a foundation.

    Hope that helps a little.

    Thanks for the input rickj!

I will see the estimate the largest most reputable co. gives me.
I'll do it anyway just to make sure it's not out of our price range. My husband's getting cold feet when I mention anything over 5k!
So I have to check it out for sure now, before he decides to just put a nice patio/umbrella set there. (we've got a gazebo now in the yard & even with the rustoleum it's not going to last beyond this hurricane season!)

I'm totally curious now so I will get some estimates this week!

Remember: Expect the bid to be high from the biggest/most reputable company... you'd be getting their bid mostly for suggestions on the various options - knowing you can probably get lower bids elsewhere.

    Good luck with it!
