Just have the new panel face into the kitchen, providing it can have the clearances I mentioned earlier. If not possible, then the panel can be put elsewhere, but the branch wiring needs to be extended. A good qualified electrician will know the best way to do this to suit your situation.
I can also tell you, for example, Connecticut does not allow panelboards under stairwells, or in stairwells of any kind. National Code does not have this restriction. So local and state codes do need to be checked.
