The glass either has to twist off, (maybe using the ring around the glass) or it may be on clips that pull straight down. Either way, the easiest way to get it off would be to put on a pair of rubber gloves for traction and twist. If there is a halogen bulb inside, it probably got quite hot and then its really tight to twist off.

I have tried twisting the ring, the glass and the glass and ring with 2 people... one holding and one twisting. I can see that it definitely has a halogen bulb. The halogen bulb making it hot and hard to twist makes a lot of sense.
I will try pulling straight down. I haven't tried that yet. I should pull the outer edge of the metal ring? Never dreamed in a million years I'd be having to ask how to change a light bulb.

Yes, I guess I would try everything. Did your handyman or yourself ever loosen the scews that hold the canopy up to the ceiling? It should drop down and there may be a model number inside it. (or even a date it was manufactured would help)

I've seen that fan before, but I don't recall the manufacturer offhand. I can do some research if it becomes necessary.

Does the glass move at all when you attempt to either rotate it or push it up?

The globe looks a bit like a Hampton Bay Carosel. Try pushing up with slight pressue on the gallss then give a 1/8 twist counterclockwise.

I have just finished trying all of the above. Nothing...
The metal ring moved a few millimeters when I pushed up and turned counter clockwise but goes no farther. The fact that it moved a few millimeters might suggest that pushing up and turning counter clockwise might be the answer... or not... but now I need to get someone to hold the glass globe stationary and use more force. It is hard to do with 2 hands. I am ready to throw a rock at it... but then again, I would never be able to find a replacement part.
Never have loosened it from the ceiling. I hope I don't have to resort to that.

Loosening it from the ceiling won't help.

Either the glass globe itself unscrews, or the metal ring is holding it in place. Which one, I have no idea, you'll have to experiment with both. If it is the former, the glass might be stuck and some lubricant might help.

Ceiling, interesting picture and I'm sure you got it right but the Caroel I saw yesterday at Home Depot has a round single globe like Chapman's. The must have made a model change but the funky colors are the same. Also similar to the Windward III Hampton Bay - Windward III Ceiling Fan in Brushed Steel - 55154 - Home Depot Canada

Honestly, it's one of those things I can't give you a clear answer on unless it's right in front of me.

I agree, that fan isn't similar in design. Still looking for a picture of the Carosel with the large single globe, that one is very similar. I see it in the store but not on line. Chapman, did my last instruction not work for you? If not try 1/8 turn clockwise but the Carosel comes off with 1/8 counterclockwise.

If you attach a hangmans noose to the fan blade you mat find a heavy enough object to pull it down. I'm sorry we are running out of ideas for you. Not knowing the brand is eventually going to shut us down. Does this unit have a remote, any brand name on the remote? Kids , do not try the noose experiment at home.

No remote... at least there wasn't one when I bought the house. I have some help later tonight to help hold the globe while I try again.

If it ever does come off... and then I get the bulb out to see what kind of bulb I need to replace it... wouldn't it stink if it wasn't the bulb after all?

Yep but think of all you are learning. It will eventually be the bulb. Most home center sell a special bulb for fans that's a little sturdier than a normal bulb.

Some fans do take a halogen and there are several bases or pins so wait until you have your globe off and then you' will see what you have.
