I recently took off outside button for the doorbell because it was broke. I bought a new one and it didn't work. There are 2 wires outside and I know they are low voltage when I touch them together I see a little spark so the transformer is working? Am a G.C. but I am stumped do I need to change everything out inside house to?

Take look at the inside unit. Is it mechanical or electronic. Because of the spark, it may be mechanical. The plunger may have hung up in the doorbell. Doorbells typically use 16 VAC.

KeepItSimpleStupid is right. I have a broken electronic door garage opener what is broken. All I have to do is do what he said or get someone to fix it.

Disconnect the door button and touch wires momentarily to see if it works. If it does and not with the pushbutton, 2 problems come to mind, 1)a bad pushbutton switch, or screws touching each other. Or some can't use a lighted pushbutton(the resistance acts like button is pressed).In that case, I dissassemble switch, remove bulb, and reinstall, or get nonlighted pushbutton.

OK I took off the switch and when I touch thr wires together I see small spark low volt but no sound. Next I opened chimer and lubed plunger still nothing. I am assuming that if there is low volt that transformer is still working ? Transformer is in garage. Am I correct in assuming that the 2 wires outside when put together should complete circuit and ring bell?

Yes.

Now you need to check for voltage at the bell. Sometimes there are 3 wires there. One for the front, one for the back and one for the common so you get two different sounds.

You can test chime with 1 wire to common on transformer the other wire can be touched to front terminal, then rear terminal. If you only have 1 doorbell, you may be able to hook to other door terminal, should the 1 coil be shorted.

Stratmando you are the mando. Thank you that was what was wrong. One side was fried hooked up to rear and though the chime sounds different I don't hane to go buy anything. Thanks again..

It probably happened when the doorbell switch stuck on.

I do thank You, Donf, and others for the advice, I was in a rush for time, couldn't get it to send to Donf, But did Email to Local Office Depot, The Made full size plans for $3.00 a sheet. It is a pain for Electrical Contractor, But handy and money saver for GC.
I thought of the pulsed load years ago, Likely won't build, I have Locator similar to one you mentioned, plus I work most things live anyway. Take Care
