Without additional details, this is hard to answer. If I assume your shunt release is a simple solenoid powered by 220 volts AC at 50 Hz, then I still need some additional information such as the impedance of the solenoid, wire size used on the coil, physical parameters of the solenoid, or for your case at the least, the DC resistance of the coil for this solenoid. If the shunt release has the appropriate parameters, it may be operated with the 110 volts DC. If you want to experiment with it, try applying the 110 volts DC to the solenoid using a 1 amp fuse in series with a 100 ohm resistor. Place an additional 50 ohm resistor in parallel with the solenoid. Last, since you mentioned this is a release of some kind, I have to assume it may not have a continuous duty rating allowing it to be energized all the time. If this assumption is correct, then you must not keep the solenoid energized beyond a few seconds.
