My pom has been eating grass & then vommitting & now he has a very bad cough like the grass cut his throat or something.

Eating grass is usually a sign of having an upset stomach. As long as he only vomited once I would not be to concerned. But you said he was coughing and the combination is what I would find worrisome. If he were my dog we would be going to the vet.

All dogs at one time or another eat grass, and (have to) vommit afterwards. That cough may have other causes.

My dogs normall eat grass from time to time. Usually they always vomit right afterwards and it at times have a weird cough that lasts for awhile. If your pom's still coughing into tomorrow you might have need to get that checked out.

Working for a Vet I learned that dogs eat grass. Plain and simple. Eating grass sometimes causes vomiting therefore grass eating dogs sometimes vomit. The cough is another story. That should be checked out. What kind of cough is it? Wet, dry, Croupy?

Once in a great while a dog can get a blade of grass caught up behind the soft palate--can't get it up or down, so it just sits there and tickles the throat.
It's more likely to be something much more simple, but if the cough continues after treatment, mention the possibility to your vet.

The behavior may go back to wild dogs who killed grass-eating prey and ate the stomach contents; it may well be a craving for something their ancestors ate.

My dog likes grass at certain times of the year, mainly when it is newly-grown (so spring and after really rainy bits of the summer). At those times, when I take her on walks I just look at her and tell her "you know, you are really not a cow!", because she will just graze her way along the yards if I let her!

I had a "grazing" German Shepherd once--that's what I was thinking about when I mentioned the "doggy salad"!

I wonder if the cough might be because he's allergic to the grass or something in it. A lot of lawns are treated with chemicals. That's the only thing I'd worry about. Otherwise, grass eating dogs are run of the mill normal. Well, as long as it's just a little grass.

Dogs show allergies through their skin not respiratory like humans.

It's funny, my dogs not only eat grass but whatever resembles it, as long as it's tall and blade-like, they're all over it.
