How long can I leave my teacup Maltese home I'm out for 8 hr working? (how should it be done?)
I never had a puppy so do what u think!!

How old is he/she?
Teacup Maltese is not a breed.. it just a very small (usually runty) Maltese..
Is your dog an adult, or a puppy?
My puppy is still a few months old and it is a female puppy!!

I'm a big proponent of not having a puppy if you work long hours.
I got my Great Dane puppy when my husband was applying for residency. I work 9-12 hour days depending on the day and it would not be good for him, but my husband wasn't working.
Once my husband got his residency Apollo was 7 months old and fine to be left alone while we both worked. I never would have gotten him if I had to leave him alone when he was young.
Just my opinion.
The general rule is that a puppy can be left crated (and you should definitely crate, puppies get into everything, and being left on their own with access to electrical plugs and other things, is dangerous) for one hour for every month of age.
So let's say your puppy is 2 months old. That means that puppy can be left in the crate for 2 hours before it needs to be relieved, walked, fed, etc. When puppy is 3 months old it can be crated for 3 hours before a break, then 4 hours at 4 months and so on.
I would seriously consider leaving him with your sister until he's older.
It is ideal if there's someone that can spend all day at home with the puppy,but if that were the case, most people wouldn't even get dogs, at least not those of us that have to work for a living.
If you insist of keeping your puppy at home alone while you work, find someone that can come to your home during the day to take the puppy out of the crate, walk it, feed it, let it do its thing. There are ways to deal with having a puppy while you're working, but you do have to make sure the puppies needs are being met.

Alty, great - and shocking - catch. To think of how many hours were spent answering these apparently made up questions is upsetting to me. 25 answers and one invisible puppy.

It's upsetting me as well. Many people posted on this thread, asked questions that would enable us to help, put in the time and effort, and now we're being told this dog doesn't even exist? Why make up a puppy? Why go through all the trouble of telling a story about how the dog spends it's days at your sisters house while you work, it's a little female, it's a few months old, it's a maltese.Quote:

OMG. Lying is pretty bad when people do it in an anonymous forum. Why not just pose the question as a hypothetical, like, "I'd like to get a maltese puppy but I work 8 hours a day and commute one more - how do people manage to care for new puppies when they are gone so long?" Instead, people make up these elaborate lies, to total strangers?
Hopefully her next question will be, "I am a pathological liar. I make up fake scenarios about things I could be honest about - like things that interest me but are not presently part of my life. Where can I get help?"

I also think when the questions are so blantantly dishonest there should be some way of doing reddies to indicate just that - someone will read this thread and not realize it's all pretend.

You made up a dog, that's the bottom line. Nothing in any of your posts on your thread implied that you were looking to get a dog, you posted that you already have one, you said the dog was female, a few months old, you're leaving the dog at your sisters house and you feel bad about it. The dog doesn't exist!
If you meant that you're getting a dog, why were we never told that the dog you were talking about in this thread, was fictional?
