What is your dog being treated for?
And what meds is he taking, or rather supposed to be taking?
Im not too sure. I was away when my mom said it was habing flu and sneezing all the time. The vet gave 3 kinds of pills to stop the flu. But I can't feed it as my dog can't even swallow water. I tried to force feed but it vomited. Its having high fever and shivering. Im quite worried because all vets are closed in my area for the weekend..
How old is the dog?
Ive given it glucose but only managed very little. Its sleeping and veey weak. Is there any way to reduce its fever atleas for the moment?
Is there an emergency veterinarian in your area? It would be worth giving them a call.
Are you checking his temperature with a digital thermometer, if so what was it?
I'm assuming 32 celsius, which calculates to about 89 fahrenheit, is that correct?
Help me out Wondergirl, slow browser it would take me forever to go to a conversion site.
89.6
Panadol = Acetaminophen
Did the vet say okay on this? And at what dose?
I apologize my computer just shut down without me,
No do not give anything
Normal temp is 101-102 F, your dog is much to cold.
Throw some towels, a blanket in the dryer to start and warm her up.
Do dogs get the flu?
So I am correct in assuming that you are taking the temp in celsius, sorry I'm American and didn't listen to well when studies included the metric system.
They can get a type of dog flu.
Get back to me please once you've wrapped her in warm towels.
Sure ill try it.. thanks a lot to both of you. Ill be glad if he can atlease pull through for the weekend. I will try to feed him glucose every 3 hours to give it energy. I can't give it any other food though... should he be OK?
Don't go away yet, OK? Still typing
Along with the warmed towels you can use a heating pad, be sure to put a towel between the dog and the pad as you can cause a burn injury, I wouldn't put it on high, medium should be fine.
The problem at the moment with forcing in glucose is that being cold can cause a certain amount of unresponsiveness and he could aspirate (suck the liquid into his lungs)
This can cause pneumonia.
A safer alternative at the moment would be to rub it on his gums and tongue.
What type of glucose do you have is it a solution from the vet?
Is there any way you could get in touch with your vet to see if there are any emergency options available?
I know where I am vets are required to provide emergency contact information for their clients.
I see... ok I will not force it. Will try as you say. Its 1.30am over here in my place. I will try to keep it warm till morning and see if I can bring him somewhere else. The glucose was not from ghe vet. I bought it awhile back because he couldn eat anything. I was thinking glucose will give him some energy
It will if his blood sugar is low he will need it, how big is he?
The most important thing right now is warming him up.
How long has it been since he has eaten?
Why wet?
Dry heat is best.
And in reference to your earlier question about, what I think is acetaminophen, never, ever, give this it is toxic to the liver and can kill.
Any human medication should first be discussed with your vet, there are many they cannot tolerate.
I trust you haven't given any?
Keep a check on his temp, OK?
Actually I did give some as it was havng really high fever:/
How much did you give him? In mg.
How big is your dog and how much did you give?
This is a concern.
How is he doing now that he is warming up.
Are you sure that you have no emergency facilities available or a vet on call in your area?
