Gave my boston terrier pinto beans thu. Night and she has had the runs since. Is there anything I can do to help? She had her food last night and still has it. I am not sure what to do. She is 3 years old and has cataracts. Do not really have money for a vet. Is this call because of the beans?

Could very well be because of the beans, you really shouldn't feed your dog from the table.
She should be eating a good quality kibble.
However, since she is having a tummy issue now, there a couple of things you can try.

Does this mean that she did not eat?

She ate her food last night, I meant she still has the diarrhea . She didn't eat a lot of it but ate some. She has always been a picky eatter, eats when she wants to.

Since she is still having the diarrhea, this is what I would do. Give her tummy a rest, no food today, only water or Gatorade/Pedialyte if she will drink it. Nothing in nothing out, right?
Her body is trying to rid itself of the problem.
And no you are not starving her.
If she has not more diarrhea today you can try a little boiled chicken and rice, no seasoning, no fat or skin, no bones.
Try just a couple of spoonfuls first, if that goes well then give her just a little more but not too much.

BTW does she have any food allergies?
See how that goes and then continue with small meals of chicken/rice tomorrow, remember not to over load her.
I'm assuming that this has not been a problem until the beans?
By Monday morning if she is still having diarrhea and her stools are not becoming formed I would call my vet.

Well we know she can't have certain pork cause it makes her throw up and she has gotten ahold of okra and done the same thing. Besides that there hasn't really been anything else that has made her do this. She has had a few beans before and never got this problem so it has been kind of worrisome. As for the no food today she has already munched on some of her dog food today so kind of can't do that now hehe. But if it doesn't get better by the day I will try the no food tomorrow. Thanks and I will let you know how it goes.

Beans are famous for causing intestinal problems in humans -- gas and diarrhea, thus there is Beano and Gas-X at the drugstore. I would guess the same is true of dogs. Let the beans go through the dog's system and remember not to give her beans again.

Well I pulled up her food and put down some pedilite in her water bowl and she drank some. She is looking for her food and I feel bad but I want her to get better.

Feed her a small amount and see if it sits okay in her stomach and if she doesn't have diarrhea.

See how it goes, just a little. If she has an appetite then she is at least not feeling badly.

K now I'm a little more worried... I kept food from her today after we talked, got her to drink water and some pedilite and her bathroom trips slowed down some but still soft/watery. I thought about feeding her some food tonight but now she won't eat anything... sighs...

Fights back tears... she won't eat her food or chicken noodle soup... she keeps eating grass, has puked and it was pink from the pedilite... I don't know what to do... I don't have money for a vet...

She's eating grass to help her digestive system. Will she take just a small amount of the chicken soup and lick at it?

Do you have Karo syrup or maple syrup? Rub that on her gums.

What will that do?

Are you anywhere near a vet? Call in the morning to find out emergency hours and maybe work out a payment plan, or call an animal shelter to find out how to get vet care.

The syrups are sugar and will give her a bit of energy.

Dogs will eat grass, there are theories behind it, although the reason behind it is not completely understood. They will also typically vomit the grass, so it is to be expected somewhat.
One theory is that eat it too purge the stomach when they have an upset.
Was she throwing up before or only after the grass?
How is she acting otherwise? Normal or is she a little sluggish?
Is there a chance that she has gotten into anything, or eaten part of a toy etc.
Just a little syrup will suffice, by the way, the finger full should be fine for now, since she is drinking she will not likely become dehydrated and the pedialyte has a little sugar in it.
Call your vet of after hours clinic and give them a rundown of what has happened so far.

She always throws up a little here and there but she didn't really puke till after the grass. As for how she is acting, she is acting kind of tired.. I mean she will get up and follow me like normal and plays a little but seems to want to lay around a lot. There is always a chance of a toy or something, the grandkids toys are all over the living room. I only had to take her out once last night to go potty, then again this morning... it's not water water this morning, more gelatnis like. But the problem this morning is she doesn't seem to want to eat or drink. We have tried different things and its like she wants it but is scared. Sighs... I'm on disability, I don't have a lot a money... certainly not for a big vet pill... starts to cry.. I don't know what to do

I know its not much Im a little excited... she drank a little water and the roomies dog got up and the baby dropped a cheeto and she ate a few of those... so that's something right?

She's probably scared to eat, just like you or I would be if we thought eating would cause diarrhea. Plus, her tummy probably does not feel real good yet. And yes, it sounds like she might be coming out of it if she wants to nibble at bits of food. Be sure to offer her foods that are good for her. We don't want more tummy problems.

I never worry for the first 24 hours IF my dogs will drink - just don't let her get dehydrated! I'd keep her from scarfing food from the floor, though. Cheetos on an upset stomach may not be a good idea.

Let her system rest.

I've had luck with boiled - yes, boiled - hamburger in the past. When my dog was sick both Wondergirl and Ladysam gave great advice, walked me through when I, like you, had tears in my eyes.

I suspect it's a badly upset stomach. Dogs can be vomiting with terrible diarrhea and literally within hours be chasing a ball.

Keep watching her.

Yeah, Cheetos are not a great idea, at least she is interested enough to nibble.
Stick with something bland like the boiled chicken and rice or boiled hamburger and rice, remember no seasoning, fat (drain it off), no skin or bone. And small amounts.
IF this is a result of the beans and there are not other factors involved such her possibly chewing up a toy or other object (if chewing things up is a habit of hers then it could very well be a concern)
If she is drinking and keeping down the chicken/rice and this continues to be a problem then I would advise that you call your vet first thing in the morning. They may want to give her the once over and perhaps check for intestinal parasites or something else.
My smaller dog will always, always have diarrhea for two days if she gets a different food than I feed her at home. This happened once while she was boarded and I took her her own food, not very happy about that, but I wasn't that concerned, since all else was normal.
After she gets over this I would steer clear of feeding her from the table and stick with a good quality kibble.
I realize that you said she could be picky, but dogs will not starves themselves for the sake of getting what they want.

What if I don't have chicken or hamburger... is there anything else I can try? She has eatten a few plan crackers and some of a peanut butter sandwich cause I was told pb was good for them. Her poop still hasn't gotten much better from yesterday but it's not dark brown anymore, but still gooey like, not watery but not mid firm. She has a little but of an appetite back and doesn't have to go that often and has been drinking water.

Call your vet and try to get her an appt. at this point if the diarrhea has not cleared.

Call every vet in your area, they should know of a community org. or rescue that can offer you some help. Your local Humane Society may have resources.
A family member or friend or even Care Credit, (a credit company that accepts applications then and there pays the medical bill and you pay them back)
Ask about that, it can be done over the phone. (if offered in your area)
Try every resource you can get a phone number for.
They can only give you two answers,"yes" or "no"
If no then move onto to the next.
There are people willing to help but you will have to find them.

Certainly there is an animal shelter near you. Call them to ask how to help your dog and find a vet. Call the reference desk at the library.

Here comes the harsh truth - SOMETHING is definitely wrong. You can't just let her keep getting sicker and die?

Then do something. Call every Vet in Town. Beg, plead. Call the local Animal Shelter. Call Rescue Groups. Call friends and relatives and beg.

That's what you do.

And here's the really harsh truth - if you can't afford to care for her you have to surrender her to someone who can. You wouldn't want to suffer and die without treatment.

Neither does she.

Well no I DIDN'T want her to suffer and die, that's why I DID beg and plea and luckily my son in law loaned me $40 to take her to the vet and get her on some antibiotics. He said she had a fever and it was most likely an intestinal inflammation/virus. And for the next few days to try and get her to eat rice with cottage cheese mixed with it. She wasn't dehydrated so that's a good thing. Thanks for all the help. Hopefully these antibiotics will help.

Well, that is good news, I am glad that it was nothing more serious. Glad you were able to find the funds to take her in. Follow your veterinarians' instructions and I hope she is on the heal very soon.
Now that you have established a relationship with your vet, you should still consider asking about agencies that help people with limited finances for the future or say to check into her cataract problem.
She is a little young for cataracts, did the vet give you any idea of what may have caused them.
Smaller breed dogs tend to live longer lives than large breeds, it would be sad for her to have to spend much of that time without sight.

She has had cataracts since she was about 1. They said its because her parents were inbreed too much and that it happens a lot in her breed.

Ok another question... she has had 2 bowls of rice and cottage cheese, no more diarrhea but she hasn't pooped at all.. how much should I feed her before not feeding her anything till she poops... I mean I don't want to make her constipated or something.

She has nothing in her intestines, so wait a bit longer for this food to travel downward.

Can you take her for a walk or play with her to get her mind off food? Rice and cottage cheese won't constipate her. Her being active will help the food travel downwards faster.

Did the vet mention giving her cooked chicken bits?

Yes cooked rice and no, no chicken, just cottage cheese. He said mix rice with cottage cheese and feed it to her a few times during the day for a few days.
