Check out Turbo, Moses, Bella (she looks sad), Gustnado, and Max.

    Actually, I can't pick just one. :(

I won't even go look at the bunnies, otherwise I'll be heading down there for sure.

Do you think R would notice if I went and got Turbo? I mean he's not a huge dog. Maybe I could sneak him in and R would be none the wiser. :)

I like Gustnado... although he would need a name change.

The price of dogs here has gone up quite a bit since I last looked, up to $220 now.

Same here. It used to be a lot lower.

The thing is, they run the shelter through donations, and the proceeds from the training classes, the store etc. It takes a lot of money to keep these animals, some of which are there for months before being adopted.

It's still cheaper than buying from a pet store, or a backyard breeder, especially since the price of neutering or spaying is included, as well as microchipping etc.

I was looking through the website of our shelter. I haven't been there yet. This building is new. When I volunteered it was in the old building, closer to my house. Now it's a 1 hour drive away, and I haven't been there because I know I won't leave empty handed, and we just can't adopt another animal right now.

They have a lot of new programs. They even do birthday parties. I may have to book the kids birthdays there next year. I think they'd love it, and their friends will get a little lesson on shelter animals, responsibility, and they also get to play with some of the animals in the shelter at that time. All in all a fun day while learning something to boot. Got to love that. :)

They also have summer camp programs for kids.

Our dogs are adopted out at $300 for adults and $350 for pups. Our rescue is run on donations and adoption fees of dogs. We adopt on a yearly basis almost 100 dogs. The rescue has been running going on 13 years... I guess that means my mom and I saved 1300 lives :D

Shelter adoption fees around here vary. Some of the more established shelters will adopt out rescues at a pretty hefty price, where as the mutts go out on the usual $80 or less (vary rarely do I see the fee exceed $100 for adults).

I think it's a good thing that rescues and shelters have high adoption fees. It weeds out Joe Shmoe who wants a dog to live outside on a chain with no shelter.

Our saying here at Rocky Mtn GSP Rescue is.. If you can't afford the price of the dog, then how will you be able to pay for vet care?
