Yes, getting a mixed dog is basically like a lottery. It may inherit the labs coat or it may inherit the schnauzer coat, you have no way of knowing.

Sariss, Thank you! Lorbeth
You're welcome. :) If you want a nonshedding dog, your best bet is to look into a purebred, so you know that is what you will get. Alternately, you can think about adopting an older mixed breed, as by then you will know how much it sheds. :)
I have a Lab/ Schnauzer mix named Chewy- we rescued him from a shelter. His fur was very much like a Lab's when I brought him home at 2 1/2 (18lbs) months old. He has a schauzer face with those cute Lab eyes- and a little grey goatie--- Now he's 4 (32 lbs) months old and his fur is changing- it's getting course and wavy- He's adorable, very smart- He's even brought us his leash to us to go outside. But overly energetic- more than any puppy we've ever had. Oh, and the vet and groomer are guessing that he'll be between 65-80 lbs- (he has huge paws.)
