Ask Me Help Desk - Help! My poop puppy

I just recently adopted my dog a German Shep. X. from the local humane society and for the first four days she was great. So much energy. Now she won't eat a thing and keeps throwing up early in the morning. She is still pretty playful but you can see that she is tired. I brought her the vet and at first they thought she had parvo but that wasn't it. So we brought her back again when the vomiting didn't stop and the diarrhea persisted and they didn't come up with anything but more ways to make me spend a load more of money. I honestly cannot afford to keep her at the vets I'v already spend $600 on two visits that obviously didn't help at all. She won't even go near the food the vet gave me and she won't touch the food that she was eating before. If anyone has any help for me it would be greatly appreciated. I just lost my old dog before we got her and my heart cannot stand to loose another one. I will do anything in my power.

Gosh this sure sounds like parvo to me.. however if the vet did the tests and it came up negative, there is no telling what it could be.. I would suggest finding another vet.. I wish I could give you the right answer, but if you have already had the dog at the vet twice and he couldn't find the problem, I doubt you will find the answer in this forum.
You need to consider putting the dog in the vets for IV fluids, that much vomiting and diarrhea can cause severe dehydration. Did the vet do blood work on the dog? Has the dog had all it's vacinations? I hope you find out the cause of her problems. And I'm sorry for the loss of your other dog. Take care...

I, too, am sorry about the loss of your other dog. My wife and I lost our 12 years old Terrior-Poodle mixed, housedog, this past Jan. It's really hard when one is a member of the family.
I agree with seeing another Vet. They are expensive, as it cost over $400 here in our local area for an X-Ray and blood testing, for our now deceased Molly, which showed possible Cancer.
It could be an infection, and I wouldn't want to guess at anything else. Throwing up is not good; please take to a different Vet; get another opinion. I do wish you and her the best.

Thank you very much for your response. Unfortunately she has seen two different vets... The first said she might have parvo and the next said the blood work came up fine. The only thing that showed up wrong is that her white blood cell count was a little low but not low enough to really worry. But on a better note she woke up this morning and ate about two nice size scoops of wet food from the vet she even licked the bolw :) ! She is taking treats again from me and going outside on her own. She is drinking lots of water and keeping it down so maybe she's over the worse we can all only hope. She was on IV fluids yesterday so that might be why she's so purky today. But I will do anything in my power to keep this dog... I cannot take the loss of another pup . My last was only three years old and because of society I had to put him down, we even named the new pup after him and the pillow on her little bed has a picture of him. So I will not take losing another baby, cause that's what they are to me! Thank you so much for your support!

I am a dog lover from about 50 yrs ago, still am. I do hope she continues with getting better. I loved it when you said she "licked the bowl"!

You very welcome everyone... She was good for two days then a little tierd for another two and then again yesterday she just jumped out of bed and hasn't stopped since! She's been eating GREAT and except a running nose has been doing fine!!

It sounds like the puppy has coccidia.It is hard to find sometimes on a fecal test unless it is looked for.Did they test the pup for it?It is a rather common problem with breeders,quaranteen areas,pet stores and humane societies.Msot puppies have a small amount in their system and is explodes as the puppy is put under stress,as in going to a new home.
There is bloody stool,sometimes vomiting,weakness from loss of blood.Let me know if you would like more info.There are many web sites about coccidia.It can be treated with a few different meds such as albon or Marquise.

Ummm tra? Not trying to be rude but this post is a year old. The original poster probably won't see your answer. If her dog is still ill after all this time, I would be very worried indeedy. But, if you read through all the posts, the dog was fine within a few days. :)

Usually, in the pet forum, questions that are over a week or two old are left alone. The problem is usually resolved by then and the OP isn't look for any more responses. Other areas on the site, you will find questions that are more open to be responded to on a longer time frame.
