Divorce 2 years after marriage - French citizenship
My French husband and I (I am American) are considering getting a divorce. February 2006 will make 2 years since we got married, we have been living and working in Florida. I never applied for European working papers but am considering moving to Europe at this point. Does anyone know how long after we get married am I eligible for French citizenship and if we got divorced, would my European rights be stripped? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You are best to wait until 3 years to pass before the divorce otherwise it could be difficult in France. Also, your husband has to go to France to help get you set up because they will need addresses in France and other official documents for the both of you. Once you do that within a few months you will get your temporary carte de sejour and then after a year another one for a year and after that your 10 year card. However, you must remain in the country and work during those years before you receive the 10 yr card. I hope this helps.
