I don't think her roughness could be causing the problem however, I'm not sure where you are located bobby but normally dental assistants are not legally permitted to do anything in a clients mouth. Rinsing with some warm salt water or a mix of 5 drops of tea tree oil in a cup of warm water may help the gums.

I know you wrote about your problem many years ago. I am hoping you will see this and tell me what happened. I too have just recently had a crown put on. I am in extreme pain and have gum inflammation all around the crown. The dentist does not know what to do and is sending me to a periodontist. He thinks it may be an allergic reaction. Any answers to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,I just got back today from the Dentists and usually his work is mainly painfree,but even before the two injections should have worn off,I am experiencing terrible pain from having this crown fitted!I have taken now,about 7 or 8 decent painkillers,but they are not touching this!I hope it gets better in the next few days and settles down.I wish good luck to everyone else on here!
Your dentist should have prescribed you Peridex ( It's a mouth wash ) that kills infection and helps with the healing process. I had this same thing happen to me. After a few days of swishing Peridex I was good to go.
Its been two years and after four front teeth were crowned,I have redness around the gum line,I've had crown lengthening and it just worsened,my dentist was sure that crown lengthening was the answer, but I'm worse off now,, I've been going for several different opinions,and seeing another dentist,this problem is making me depressed,I don't know what to do.

I have had the same problem and my Dentist put me on antibiotics, this happened once before and the antibiotics seems to do the trick. I am suffering again and he has given me a strong antibiotic to take to get rid of the problem.
I had a temporary crown with no problem cause of a cracked tooth. A week later the permanent crown was put on and for three weeks I have experienced weird pain off and on from ear ache to tooth pain in other areas of the same side of my mouth. My gums were hurting but every where else, seemingly not the "crowned" tooth itself. In fact two days ago the dentist X-rayed again and he said nothing looks wrong. I began having such terrible pain that night that I googled my symptoms and Trigeminal Neuralgia popped up. These people sound like what I feel like! Went to the Neurologist today and although she is ordering an MRI she said my symptoms are not quite characteristic of Trigeminal N. Thank God! But what do I do now? Im on pain killers and my gums are swollen and upper and lower teeth ache on the left side of my head. Surely something is wrong! Help!
I have the same problem... a week after my crown the tooth became extremely sensitive! Can't touch it even with my tongue. Talking and swollowing has become difficult. Went today and did an x-ray everything is showing fine and they're not sure why this is happening... they put me on amoxil and mouthwash and to rinse with salt water! Hoping it eases it pretty soon because I can't stand this pan!
It's none of the things above. You most likely have an allergy to the metal. Even if they used a porcelain crown, there is metal inside of it (probably nickel). I know this because I, myself, am allergic to nickel and my gums have been blue ever since I got my crowns. It's bee 6 years. It does not go away, you need to have the crowns replaced with all porcelain ones.

I am having a similar problem. After cracking a back molar on a pretzel, my dentist took an impression, ground down the tooth, did a build up, and put on a temporary. The temp felt OK and no problem... but when the new crown was cemented in, the pain started. I started having deep jaw and neck pain. I went back, he did some bite adjustments and told me to rinse with warm salt water. That was Dec 2012. I was told to give it time. It's now April 2013 and the gum around that crown still are red and if I don't rinse with hydrogen peroxide daily, the pain just drives me crazy! I am just beside myself because I know I'm probably going to need more crowns but I don't want to go through this torture every time. And the new crown looks short in height too... it seems very tight between the teeth, maybe that's what the irritation is? I go back to the dentist this week, I will post my findings on here. If he doesn't make it right, I'm finding a new dentist... there's got to be someone that knows what their doing!
