I would go with option 3, but stop short of adding her to IMing of any kind- for now.

See if she accepts your request first, then see what happens.

If you do it the way you said you were going to, after you hit 'send', the ball is in her court, wait for her to respond.

Why can't you just say, "Hi, I heard you were into fantasy football?". Then go from there.

What's up guys. So she accepted my request and answered like this: I know who you are! How are you? Soooo we'll see each other on the next fantasy then."

Now what... I'm just happy she actually knows who I am...

You get to know her, and see if she is as interested as you are, and enjoy the process, be it fantasy football, or a concert, or just sharing a big mac.

Yeah I guess I can approach her in person now without having the risk of being pepper-sprayed. LOL
