Talk about out of touch with average Americans
David Axelrod thinks loving dog owners should transport their dogs in taxpayer supplied bulletproof limos.

How loving owners transport their dogs.

Sorry Obots, my Corolla will have to do for Molly, my rescued stray Blue Heeler. If I had bought a $2000 Portuguese Water Dog it would have to stay home while I rode the bus to work.

Must be, I guess I missed the Romney dog story. Doesn't bother me, I'd rather have the pooch in a protective kennel secured to the roof of the car than in the bed of a pickup.

I love my dogs which is why they've often stayed in their kennel, it's safe. Travel can be traumatic no matter where the dog rides so would you rather your dog ride safely, securely and sheltered from the elements on a car rack, or clean up the diarrhea from your back seat? As long as it's secure and protected from the elements, is it any worse than in the belly of an airplane?

    Hello again, Steve:

That's one version of the story. His son tells another...

The white Chevy station wagon with the wood paneling was overstuffed with suitcases, supplies, and sons when Mitt Romney climbed behind the wheel to begin the annual 12-hour family trek from Boston to Ontario. … Before beginning the drive, Mitt Romney put Seamus, the family’s hulking Irish setter, in a dog carrier and attached it to the station wagon’s roof rack. He’d built a windshield for the carrier, to make the ride more comfortable for the dog.

Romney told his family he would “be making predetermined stops for gas, and that was it,” but one of his sons, Tagg, eventually noticed something was amiss:

As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ”Dad!” he yelled. ”Gross!” A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who’d been riding on the roof in the wind for hours.

Romney responded to his dog’s defecation by “coolly” stopping at a gas station where he “borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway” with Seamus strapped back on the roof.

They should open the window a bit so Obama can stick his head out and pant.

Dude, I already addressed the facts, not the story that makes it sound like Mitt strapped him to the car with bungie cords. I'm sure 30 years ago, Mitt did not have a bulletproof, taxpayer funded limo either.

"If I had bought a $2000 Portuguese Water Dog"... (speechlesstx) The Obamas didn't buy the dog. Bo was a gift from the Kennedy family. "The Humane Society of the United States released a statement on their website thanking the Obamas "for taking in a second-chance dog."

"According to financial disclosure forms released by President Obama in 2010, Bo has a value of $1,600." (Wikipedia)

Bo was no "second chance dog", and I don't care what the Obamas value him at, I priced puppies and they ranged from $1600 to $2200.

Bred by Julie Parker of Erie County, Pennsylvania,[7] Bo is the son of Watson of the Rader family in the Pittsburgh suburb of Ambridge, Pennsylvania and of Penny who belongs to Art and Martha Stern of Boyd, Texas. One of Bo's nine litter mates is the late Senator Ted Kennedy's Portie named Cappy (Amigo's Captain Courageous); the litter was named "Hope and Change" in honor of Obama's victory. Bo was purchased by a person unknown to the public, but eventually the new owner returned him to the Stern family; when buying the dog, the original purchaser had signed a contract requiring him to return the dog to the breeder if things did not work out. Bo was enrolled on January 5, 2009, with Kennedy's obedience trainer Dawn Sylvia, in Hume, Virginia...

The Obama family originally seemed to emphasize their desire for an adopted shelter dog, but made no firm commitments.[28] In the summer of 2008, Best Friends Animal Society, an animal welfare organization, gathered 50,000 signatures on a petition asking the family to adopt a shelter animal.[29]

As Bo is a gift from the Kennedy family, he is not a shelter dog.

She never said he was a shelter dog. He was a gift though. Why does it matter how much the dog is valued at?

    P.S. It's my thread, I'll post what I want.

Even though you exaggerated the value of the dog in your OP?

I have four rescued cats, but since they hate each other, I can't include a photo of them together.

I didn't exaggerate, I told you I checked the going rate TODAY for puppies before I posted, "I priced puppies and they ranged from $1600 to $2200". My OP falls in that range.

Oh, sorry. I thought in your OP you were blasting Obama for buying "a $2000 Portuguese Water Dog." Guess I'll have to get my glasses updated.

I think the point was that, in this poor economy, it is morally reprehensible and a terrible example to be owning (buying?) expensive dogs when people are out of work and starving.
