What Obama needs to do (if he doesn't want this thing stolen) is to give a speech to his supporters stressing the importance of paper ballots and proper vote-monitoring. You might want to bring a phone that can record video into the voting booth if you are voting on a touch screen machine. If we can get videos of this happening, this will be a bigger story.
Granted it most likely has to do with calibration of the screen but if it's not brought to the attention of the population the vote may go the wrong way.
In NY we vote with the same lever voting machines that we used when I cast my first vote in 1973 . As far as I can determine there has never been a question that the machines are recording votes accurately.

That's because they are not electronic voting machines.
If there are flaws it is because the Democrats rushed the introduction of electronic voting into the system after they claimed there were flaws in paper based systems . (Help America Vote Act of 2002 ' )
I don't see how taking phone pix of the screen will be of any help when there is a basic anonymity to the vote.
But I do not know enough about these machines to comment further..

Hello again,
From a paper by Ariel J. Feldman, J. Alex Halderman, and Edward W. Felten, September 13, 2006.
Abstract This paper presents a fully independent security study of a Diebold AccuVote-TS voting machine, including its hardware and software.
We obtained the machine from a private party. Analysis of the machine, in light of real election procedures, shows that it is vulnerable to extremely serious attacks. For example, an attacker who gets physical access to a machine or its removable memory card for as little as one minute could install malicious code; malicious code on a machine could steal votes undetectably, modifying all records, logs, and counters to be consistent with the fraudulent vote count it creates. An attacker could also create malicious code that spreads automatically and silently from machine to machine during normal election activities — a voting-machine virus. We have constructed working demonstrations of these attacks in our lab. Mitigating these threats will require changes to the voting machine's hardware and software and the adoption of more rigorous election procedures.

Now, I don't know if THESE machines are the ones pointed to in the OP. But does it matter? The AccuVote TS is in use today. The company is owned by Republicans, and they DON'T release their software for examination.
I don't think THESE Republicans would cheat, do you?
No I don't ;it doesn't make sense for them to do that . I think they are in the business of selling voting machines .If their machines are proven corruptible then there would not be a market for their product. I think they are working their best minds in their R&D dept. to make their system as efficient and attack proof as is possible even if indeed their systems are currently flawed.

Hello again, tom:
Well, of course, we know that it didn't make sense for the banks to buy worthless paper either, don't we? But, they did, didn't they?
I think the idea that companies will act in their own interest is dead.

PS> (edited) Course, they COULD think it would be in their interest to make sure that a Republican wins, couldn't it? Given all the talk about Obama being a commy, and all.
"What Obama needs to do (if he doesn't want this thing stolen)"
Still not over the 2000 election? Republicans have introduced legislation supporting a paper trail but it was killed by the Dems in favor of their more complicated, more costly versions. Republicans have pushed for requiring proof of citizenship and ID to vote and Dems have killed it, calling it "voter suppression." I'd say the Dems are much less concerned about "stolen" elections than Republicans.
They would if the mistaken votes were registering for Obama - but they aren't, the erroneous votes are for McCain.
LOL, did you even see the reporter touch the screen? What a hoax, the guy clearly touched between the lines or if anything, his fingernail was touching McCain's position. I've done everyone the favor of a screen capture of the precise moment he touched the screen.
He touched the screen on the candidate's name, in this case the voter would touch the line with Obama's name and the McCain entry would highlight.
edit: how did that graphic appear at the bottom of my post in your screenshot?
No, his finger is between the lines, and actually there's a split second later than my screen shot where it appears his fingernail may have touched for McCain. I might believe him if he would have clearly touched for Obama but he didn't. Granted, the vendors could have done a better job at separating the candidates, larger icons, more space between the choices, etc. Elderly people and others not so steady can easily make a mistake with that setup, but I watched frame by frame and this reporter clearly chose a spot on the screen to “prove” his point.
And I’m sure the graphic was courtesy of AMHD. They choose the advertisements, not me.
I would like to know if a person has been out of prison for 16 yrs now.Off parole has no fees or fines due. Can they vote in the election. Really would like to know.
Hello:
I'm an exconvict. That notwithstanding, I wish to be a productive and participating member of society. Toward that end, I vote.
Now, I really don't know if I'm legally allowed to vote, and I don't want to commit more crimes. However, I've tried to research it, but I've come up with...
What do you think is the best way to get people to go and vote? I'm not talking about any particular candidate or any particular age group, gender or background. I'm just talking about generally getting people to vote. What do you think is the best way to go about it?
