Would Secret Service take a bullet for Trump?
One of the many issues surrounding the assassination attempt Saturday was the performance of the Secret Service detail tasked to protect Trump. On the other posting I speculated how DEI played a part in it. But there is more to consider .

It was a year ago . We take one of our dogs for grooming to Pickens South Carolina . Typically we drop off our dog ;take a hike ,and then go to a local watering hole for lunch . It is usually a quite spot on a weekday with only a few locals seated . But that day there was an extended table full of men and local law enforcement officers . The men were the advanced team of Secret Service officers who were there to plan Trump's scheduled rally .

Pickens is like many small towns in America . It has a main street lined with 1 and 2 story retail shops . Trump's rally was to take place there . It also has a water tower looming over it . Plenty of places for Secret Service to be concerned about .

They left the pub before I finished .I got to see them starting to stake out the town and map out their strategy . More than 50 thousand people crammed the street to listen to Trump . It went off without a hitch even though it was a very hot day.

I mention this because I am shocked to see the difference in their performance. You would think an open venue would be easier to secure than a street with many more places for an assassin to perch.

I don't know if this is true . Secret Service is denying this rumor. The rumor is that Trump's A team detail was swapped out to protect Jill Biden. I read this in Susan Crabtree's report at 'Real Clear Politics'.

Along with this she reports that some Secret Service agents may not be committed to protecting Trump. The agent posted that she would not take a bullet for Trump. She was fired or retired with full benefits.

Following the incident, Secret Service agents and officers are privately questioning the hiring process and whether the agency had adequately screened Herczeg’s background. Some also wonder whether her hire was part of a diversity, equity, and inclusion push in response to years of staff shortages that may have required the agency to lower its once-strict employment standards and physical performance to reach quotas for female agents and officers.
Secret Service Scuffle Prompts DEI, Vetting Scrutiny | RealClearPolitics

There are many Federal Agencies we can do without . Secret Service is not one of them . They must be staffed by the best agents for the job and highly trained to protect those they are assigned to protect. Yes they must be willing to take a bullet . No they should not be selected for any other reason than being the best person to do the job.

So after days of denying the claim ; we now know that indeed Trump was denied a request to have additional Secret Service protection before the assassination attempt.
    Quote:

The Secret Service, after initially denying turning down requests for additional security, is now acknowledging some may have been rejected
Secret Service said to have denied Trump requests for more event security - The Washington Post

Also a blatant lie was their deflection and blaming local police for the perimeter penetration. Butler police smacked that line down .

    Quote:

The officers were assigned to manage traffic Saturday afternoon outside the Trump rally at the Butler Farm Show, an outdoor venue. But they leapt into action when they heard a radio call about a suspicious person on the roof of a nearby building, Knights said. The officers converged on the building, owned by a glass research company, but couldn’t see anybody above, because they were too close.
“So two of the officers went to what appeared to be the lowest point from ground to roof,” Knights said. “One of the officers actually boosted the second officer up high enough for him to grab hold of the roof.”
“When he was able to pull his head up over the roof, he did in fact see an individual on the roof with a weapon,” Knights said.

The gunman pointed his rifle at the officer, who was hanging on the edge of the roof. The officer ducked his head, lost his grip and fell about 8 feet to the ground, Knights said.
The two officers — the one who fell and the one who boosted him up — both got on their radios to report that there was a person on the roof with a weapon.

Secret Service has a recommendation to address their inability to protect Trump. He should stop doing outdoor rallies .

For his part Trump is going to mostly comply. It will mean smaller crowds and will cost the campaign much more money to book arenas .

He does plan to go back to Butler PA to hold a rally and to honor Corey Comperatore who was killed during the assassination attempt. Guess the Secret Service will have to figure out how to secure slightly sloping rooftops 130 yards away from the stage.

Maybe. With the incredibly inept director who just stepped down, I have to wonder if that lack of skill and training goes down the ladder farther than we might have thought it would. It might be a lack of both will and skill. If that's the case, then it's yet another reason to elect Trump.

A whistleblower alleged that Secret Service acting Director Ronald Rowe personally cut security resources and “retaliated” against agents with security concerns leading up to former President Donald Trump’s rally on July 13, according to a letter released Thursday.
The whistleblower alleged that Rowe personally implemented “significant cuts” to the Counter Surveillance Division (CSD), which does advanced threat assessments for venues, and alleged that agents who expressed security concerns were “retaliated against,” according to Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley’s letter to Rowe. As a result, the CSD failed to perform its “typical evaluation” of the rally venue in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and “was not present on the day” of the attempted assassination.
“The whistleblower claims that if personnel from CSD had been present at the rally, the gunman would have been handcuffed in the parking lot after being spotted with a rangefinder,” the letter states.

The question was 'Would Secret Service take a bullet for Trump?'
That we may never know. That is because according to Senator Josh Hawley ; whistleblowers testified that Secret Service was not there . We know that a lot of the protection of Trump was outsourced to the local police depts. What we did not know was that the rest of Trump's protection was given to Homeland Security . (I missed this when it was first reported .)

    Quote:

In addition, whistleblower allegations suggest the majority of DHS officials were not in fact USSS agents but instead drawn from the department’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). This is especially concerning given that HSI agents were unfamiliar with standard protocols typically used at these types of events, according to the allegations.

The other thing I don't quite understand is the timeline .

Asif Raza Merchant ;a Pakistani hired by Iran to arrange the assassination of Trump entered the US mid-April . He was tracked by the FBI ;tried to hire an assassin who turned into a confidential source (CS)

    Quote:

Merchant traveled from Texas to New York to meet with the CS and then eventually returned to Texas. In June 2024, Merchant flew from Texas to LaGuardia Airport in New York to meet with the CS again. During this meeting, the complaint alleges that Merchant told the CS he needed the CS to arrange a meeting for Merchant to meet hitmen in New York. According to the complaint, on June 10, 2024, Merchant and the CS met with two undercover law enforcement officers posing as hitmen. After the meetings, Merchant traveled to Boston, Massachusetts, and then “[o]n or about June 21, 2024, Merchant traveled from Boston to New York to make the advance payment to the hitmen for the assassination plot.”
    2024-08-14-PSI-and-HSGAC-to-DHS-and-FBI.pdf (senate.gov)

Merchant then began arranging means to obtain $5,000 in cash to pay the UCs as an advance payment for the assassination, which he eventually received with assistance from an individual overseas. On June 21, Merchant met with the UCs in New York and paid them the $5,000 advance. After Merchant paid the $5,000 to the UCs, one of the UCs stated, “now we’re bonded,” to which Merchant responded “yes.” The UC then stated “Now we know we’re going forward. We’re doing this,” to which Merchant responded “Yes, absolutely.”
Merchant subsequently made flight arrangements and planned to leave the United States on Friday, July 12, 2024. On July 12th, law enforcement agents placed Merchant under arrest before he could leave the country. Merchant has stated that he has a wife and children in Iran and a wife and children in Pakistan.
    2024-08-14-PSI-and-HSGAC-to-DHS-and-FBI.pdf (senate.gov)

So the FBI knew he was plotting to assassinate Trump . They tracked him since at least the time he entered the country and probably before. They knew of his recruitment attempts .
Then they arrest him on JULY 12 ;the day before the assassination attempt on Trump occurs.

Maybe it is just a coincidence. But I am less inclined to believe in coincidences these days .

Again Trump was targeted by an assassin.
The assassin is Dems supporter who travelled from Hawaii to Florida to take his shot.He was also pro-Ukraine who has fought in Ukraine as a mercenary . Let me stipulate that blaming words for actions is a convenient excuse ;that leads to far worse things like regulating speech . But Dems saying Trump is Hitler . Dems saying democracy is on the ballot .Then Trump is called on to tone down his rhetoric after an attempt on his life ;while the left ;particularly in the US claims to have clean hands. That needs to be called out .

Here are some comments by Evita to Katie Couric .

I think it's important to indict the Russians, just as Mueller indicted a lot of Russians who were engaged in direct election interference and boosting Trump back in 2016. But I also think there are Americans who are engaged in this kind of propaganda. And whether they should be civilly or even in some cases criminally charged is something that would be a better deterrence, because the Russians are unlikely, except in a very few cases, to ever stand trial in the United States

    USA Today published this editorial

There is no place in politics for violence. That said, the former president, Donald Trump, brings a lot of this stuff on himself.

Trump's second assassination attempt was brought on by his own lies (cincinnati.com)

JD Vance's post on X hits both of my topics today . The left's double standard on political violence and rhetoric ;and censorship .

Yesterday, Donald J. Trump nearly lost his life. An armed gunman waited for him in the bushes. He brought a go-pro camera to record it. A secret service agent spotted the barrel of a gun through a fence and shot at the gunman. The gunman fled. He was caught. And now we slowly learn about him and his motive.President Trump is my running mate, and my friend, but he is more importantly a father and grandfather to people who love him very much. I want him to have many more years with his family. (And selfishly, I'd like many more with my own.)I admire the president for calling for peace and calm. The rhetoric is out of control. It nearly got Steve Scalise and many others killed a few years ago. It nearly got Donald Trump killed twice. But I want to say something about yesterday's news, and how it illuminates the difference between vigorous debate and violent rhetoric. Here is what we know so far: Kamala Harris has said that "Democracy is on the line" in her race against President Trump. The gunman agreed, and used the exact same phrase. He had a Kamala Harris bumper sticker on his truck. He was obsessed with Ukraine's "fight for Democracy" and absorbed many unhinged views about the Russia-Ukraine war. HIs name is Ryan Routh, and he donated 19 times to Democrat causes and zero to Republican ones. How do you think the Democrats and their media allies would respond if a 19-time Republican donor tried to kill a Democratic official? It's a question that answers itself. For years, Kamala Harris's campaign surrogates have said things like "Trump has to be eliminated." And how have their media allies responded to the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump in as many months?NBC News called the attempted assassination a "golf club incident." The LA Times told us "Trump Targeted at Golf Club." The USA Today's top of the fold headline is "Hope in America," and they published a preposterous letter to the editor arguing that Trump "brings these assassination attempts on himself." CNN's Dana Bash--who just yesterday bizarrely accused me of inciting a bomb threat--said today that Harris campaign rhetoric didn't motivate Routh even though he echoed their rhetoric explicitly.PBS's weekend show perfectly illustrates the double standard of Kamala Harris's media friends. After spending 30 seconds on the second assassination attempt on President Trump, they then focused on the real danger: me and President Trump, who are, according to them, personally responsible for bomb threats against Springfield. Of course, I repeatedly condemend those threats. And reports today suggest they came from a foreign country, not--as the media suggested--a deranged Trump fan.The double standard is breathtaking. Donald Trump and I are, by their account, directly responsible for bomb threats from foreign countries. Why? Because we had the audacity to repeat what residents told us about the problems in their town. Meanwhile, Harris allies call for Trump to be eliminated as the media publishes arguments that he deserved to be shot. This seems like a double standard. But at a deep level, it is entirely consistent.Consider Springfield. Citizens are telling us that there are problems. These include the undeniable truths of higher car accidents, unaffordable housing, evictions of residents, overcrowded hospitals, overstressed schools, and rising rates of disease. They also include the infamous pet stories--which, again, multiple people have spoken about (either on video or to me or my staff).Kamala Harris's first strategy was to ignore these people and their concerns. Yes, she had prevented the deportation of millions of illegal aliens, and some of them made their way to Springfield. But it was a small town with no voice. Some of the local leadership even loved the cheap labor. So the suffering of thousands of American citizens went ignored.Their next move with these stories is censorship. In Springfield, a psychopath (or a foreign government) calls in a bomb threat, so they blame that on President Trump (and me). The threat of violence is disgraceful of course, yet the media seems to relish it. They cover a bomb threat, but not the rise in murders. They cover the threat, but not the HIV uptick. They cover the threat, not the schools overwhelmed with new kids who don't speak English. They cover the threat, not rising insurance rates or the car accidents that caused them. They cover the threat, not the failures of Kamala Harris's leadership. The purpose is not to turn down the rhetoric. If anything, covering the bomb threats gives whoever makes them exactly what he wants: attention. The purpose is distraction and shame. How dare you talk about the problems of Haitian migration in Springfield? You're endangering people, simply by discussing the problems of Kamala Harris's policies. It's a form of moral blackmail, designed not to make anyone safe but to shut everyone up.Springfield is the most recent, but hardly the most egregious example. There was the Hunter Biden laptop story, censored by BigTech. And who can forget that anyone who didn't support Kamala Harris's Ukraine policy was drenched in the blood of Ukrainian children. That last one appears to have had some effect on Routh--the most recent would-be assassin. The message is always the same: don't you dare express an opinion on the public affairs of your nation. The message is: shut up.This is the difference between debate--even aggressive debate--and censorship. It is one thing to attack Kamala Harris for "destroying the country" and quite another to say that President Trump should be "eliminated." It is one thing to criticize overheated rhetoric, and another to say that a former president has invited an assassination on himself. It is one thing to say that Donald J. Trump's arguments about the election of 2020 are wrong; it is another thing to attempt to remove him from the ballot over it.It is one thing to say that pets are not, in fact being eaten, and another thing to say that anyone who disagrees is trying to murder people. Dissent, even vigorous dissent, is a great tradition of the United States. Censorship is not.For the next 7 weeks of this campaign, I will vigorously defend your right to speak your mind. I believe you have every right to criticize me and Donald J. Trump, even if you say terrible or untrue things about us. But when I ask you to "tone down the rhetoric" it's not about being nice--our citizens have every right to be mean, even if I don't like it--or empty platitudes.Instead, I'm asking all of us to reject censorship. Reject the idea that you can control what other people think and say. Embrace persuasion of your fellow citizens over silencing them--either through the powers of Big Tech or through moral blackmail.I think this will make our public debate much better. But there's something else. Reject censorship and you reject political violence. Embrace censorship, and you will inevitably embrace violence on its behalf. The reason is simple. The logic of censorship leads directly to one place, for there is only one way to permanently silence a human being: put a bullet in his brain.

In those 57 days, if Ms. Harris had held five more press conferences, she would now have a total of...five press conferences. “The reaction is unacceptable,” “And it’s the second time media and political players have gotten away with playing down what should be a cause for panic.”

Um Chris by using the words "playing down" you are down playing the Dems and compliant press reaction . They are blaming Trump for being the target of an assassin.

Oh and Chris ....... Elon Musk is not one of our leaders. He is a business man who is very good at making creative products . Have you praised him as taking Twitter and making it the only major platform that believes in free speech ?

Ryan Routh the would be assassin has traveled to Ukraine and fought with the Ukraine forces against the Russians. Knowing that Trump's position is to end the war ;was Routh in contact with anyone foreign or domestic who supported him or encouraged him to attack Trump ? In other words ;with Ukraine almost certain to lose will we see blowback against the West by disillusioned Ukrainians and their supporters who feel their efforts were undermined by Trump and others opposed to our intervention ?

How did he know that Trump would be playing golf at that club at that time ? Even stipulating that Trump probably will be playing golf ,how is it that Secret Service did not sweep the course and secure it before Trump teed up ? All it would take is some drone eyes in the sky to sweep the whole course in a short time.

How irresponsible is the administration to claim they can't protect Trump because Secret Service is underfunded and over worked !!!!! Somehow they manage to protect EVERYONE ELSE they are tasked with protecting .

Less heated rhetoric is certainly needed on the repub side. As to the dems, MSNBC has no issues with their vile words about Trump. This was posted several months ago by KH.Attachment 49639

Simply stated many Christians support him but don't vote. They have their head in heavenly pursuits ."Live in this world, but not of this world,”

Why We Do Not Vote (sabbath.org)

What Trump was saying was that if they voted for him just this one time he would fix everything so they would not need to vote again.

But the Dems and compliant press are good at taking segments of what is said and then distort it to comply with their preconceived narrative . So you have Trump's line being spun as 'see he wants to be a dictator '

It is not different than the "blood bath " quote being turned into a promise of violence if he loses even though he was using the term ;as many Dems have used it in the past to speak of economic consequences of a failed policy .

    He wasn't addressing only Christians.

I'm a Christian. If he's elected, why won't I ever have to vote again?

I assure you Trump was catering his comments to those in attendance. I doubt there were any libs there except for maybe a troll with a recording device so Trump's comments could be sliced and diced to take out of context.
