The Green New Steal comes face to face with reality
2 items in the news illustrate how disastrous the mandates from the Green New Steal aka the Inflation Reduction Act are .

3,882 auto dealers wrote a letter to Clueless Joe begging him to back off of EV mandates

    Quote:

While the goals of the regulations are admirable, they require consumer acceptance to become a reality. With each passing day, it becomes more apparent that this attempted electric vehicle mandate is unrealistic based on current and forecasted customer demand. Already, electric vehicles are stacking up on our lots which is our best indicator of customer demand in the marketplace.

Mr. President, no government agency, no think tank, and no polling firm knows more about the automobile customer than us. We talk to customers every day. As retail automotive dealerships, we are agnostic as to what we sell. Our business is to provide customers with vehicles that meet the needs of their budgets and lifestyles.

Some customers are in the market for electric vehicles, and we are thrilled to sell them. But the majority of customers are simply not ready to make the change.
    Voice of the Customer (evvoiceofthecustomer.com)

Adding weight to their concerns is Dem Guv of Connecticut Ned Lamont. The state had plans like California to ban sales of gas vehicles in the state by 2035 .But he faced stiff opposition in the legislature. So he ended the effort.....at least for now.

Gov. Ned Lamont wants 'roadmap' for future gas car sales ban (wtnh.com)

As the dealers noted ......“many people just want to make their own choice about what vehicle is right for them.”

Does this mean the EV movement has run out of gas ?

I imagine the letter to the pres will have but little impact. When the operating principle is, "Make up mind, and then investigate," truthful letters such as the one above don't carry much weight. The only solution is to get the man out of office.

    Quote:

many people just want to make their own choice about what vehicle is right for them.”
What's incredible is that this even has to be said in the supposed land of the free. In the world of liberal dems, a woman should be free to choose to have her unborn child killed, but not free to choose the kind of car she wants to drive.

Bjorn Lomborg is a pretty reasonable guy. I've watched some of his videos about alternative energies and they are pretty good. The best line from the X article was, "Breathless climate reporting misleads us and panic makes us less likely to tackle climate smartly." Much of this is about the media getting clicks and pols gaining power over us.

He did get a little on the polly-annish side. "Second, we need to innovate to make green energy cheaper than fossil fuels." Yeah, and while we're at it we can innovate to make personal jetpacks sold in Walmart so we can get around more easily.

I have been calling the alternative energy drive 'the green new steal ' because I call em as I see them. It never occurred to me that in addition to the fleecing of people world wide through the tax system that it would also be the means to work new fraud schemes on the unsuspecting public. (actually I sorta did because I saw the Goracle's carbon credits schemes in action)

The most recent example is reported in Time Mag

    Quote:

A decade ago, someone knocking on your door to sell you solar panels would have been selling you solar panels. Now, they are probably selling you a financial product—likely a lease or a loan.
Mary Ann Jones, 83, didn’t realize this had happened to her until she received a call last year from GoodLeap, a financial technology company, saying she owed $52,564.28 for a solar panel loan that expires when she’s 106, and costs more than she originally paid for her house.

So would you sacrifice your safety on the road to decrease your carbon footprint ?

That is what lawmakers in Washington State are considering .

What are low rolling resistance tires ? They are tires that have less contact with the road by reducing tread depth

They cost more than regular tires ;but allegedly are more fuel efficient so you save in gas costs.

What you compromise for the fuel efficiency is tread longevity , responsiveness, traction, and performance.

Anyone who has been to Washington knows that they are subject to constant weather ;rain and snow. Traction it would seem should be a major concern .That is why the elites in the state drive around with all wheel drive Subarus to their vacation retreats in the Cascades .

But lawmakers would give the state Department of Commerce the authority to prevent the sale of replacement tires that they says have too much “rolling resistance.” California is already in the process of taking tire standards that have traditionally been decided by the national government.

Washington wants to partner with California on this .

Washington state wants to have a say in new tires | Peninsula Daily News

Kudos to the lawmakers in giving lip service to safey

may not adversely affect tire safety or tire longevity as demonstrated by the independent testing of wet grip or traction.

Bill tracking in Washington - HB 2262 (2023-2024 legislative session) - FastDemocracy

If they did not think these tires would impact safety then why do they make as exception to snow tires ?
Must provide exemptions for snow tires, spare use tires,
28 tires manufactured specifically for use in vehicles with three or
29 fewer wheels, or tires manufactured specifically for use in an off-
30 road recreational or agricultural motor vehicle.

The only difference between snow tires and regular tires is thread depth and patterns of thread that increase contact with the road surface.

Limit options ;make them more expensive and make them less safe . The progressive's way.

Yep. Denver, awash in illegal immigrants, is facing a heavy dose of reality. The mayor has announced he is cutting about 30 mil from city services intended for American citizens who live in Denver in order to pay for the upkeep of people who are not citizens of the U.S. And, of course, this is all the fault of, you guessed it, Donald J. Trump. Denver can now legitimately lay claim to being the fantasy capitol of America. And rather incredibly, I have no doubt that the majority of Denverites approve of all of this.

    Quote:

Denver is cutting $5 million from public services used by its residents in order to pay for its spiraling illegal immigration costs, with the city’s mayor pinning the blame on Republicans and former President Donald Trump.
Mayor Mike Johnston, a Democrat, announced on Friday that hours will be cut at recreation centers, and in-person vehicle registration renewals at the DMV will end, while the planting of spring flower beds will also be stopped to save the much-needed cash.
The cuts follow the mayor’s decision last month to divert $25 million from the city budget to the migrant crisis. That plan included pulling $10 million from a contingency fund and $15 million from a building remodel. Those actions followed the city’s decision to hold many positions vacant and review new or expanded contracts and programs.

Oh the horrors! Congress wants to mandate having AM analogue radios in EVs. Why would that be necessary ? Well in some parts of the country ;especially rural America, that is the best source for emergency broadcasting. FM cable and sat are not always available. What good is having a cell phone with the ability to give emergency alerts if the phone is out of signal range ?

Even in California this can be an issue.

Telecom Companies Are Failing to Keep People Safe During Disasters (jacobin.com)

Take Hurricane Katrina as an example. Cell service went down ;cable service went down. The only was government could send out emergency messages was with AM frequency.
Even in the NY metropolitan area there needs to be a reliable backup besides digital

After Sandy, Questions Linger Over Cellphone Reliability : All Tech Considered : NPR

AM radio is free to everyone . FM ;cable ;cell phones and satellite reception all comes at additional costs to the consumer . My emergency kit has a wind up radio so I can get reception without needing batteries.

47 Senators, including 24 Republicans, and 237 Members in the House (125 Republicans including Speaker Mike Johnson) have co-sponsored the legislation.

But EV makers don't want them because they claim it creates electromagnetic interference. There are ways to mitigate that but it adds more cost to the car.

Some of the establishment don't want them because AM radio is a bigger source of conservative broadcast format. The conspiracy minded part of me suspects that is the real reason for objecting.

The libs counter that conservatives who want to mandate making AM radio available are hypocrites because they chafe at government mandates .

Well yeah they have a bit of a point. But at the same token. These same clowns have no problem forcing us to buy EVs .

I'd rather they mandate something like having AM radio than mandating purchasing EVs in the 1st place. Eliminating them is a clear sop to the Green New Steal because having AM capability in an all electric vehicle is an engineering challenge. Too bad All of them add costs but few would argue they are not necessary .

There are hundreds of safety related requirements in autos . In this case you have far right and far left agreeing .

Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders Are Teaming Up to Save AM Radio - The Atlantic

The satellite features and cell phone features in cars all add to the consumer costs also. The only free alternative is FM ;and that has a short range and reception in rural areas can be spotty at best.

The automakers say it is too costly ? I say EV mandates are too costly .

    Quote:

77 radio stations play a crucial role serving as Primary Entry Points (PEPs) across the country, a vast majority of which are AM stations. These are designated radio stations whose signals cover 90% of the American population and have a direct connection to FEMA and the National Weather Service (NWS). In times of crisis, these stations receive emergency information and alerts directly from the federal government, ensuring a reliable and authoritative source of information for the public.

Why is AM radio necessary when most people have cells phones or other electronic devices?

    • AM radio stations have a long reach, covering a much larger geographical area than a cell phone tower, and can be accessed by anyone with a simple radio device. This ensures that vital information is accessible to everyone, including those in rural or remote areas.
    • AM radio stations continue to function during power outages, natural disasters or other emergencies, providing critical updates and information to the public. Wireless Emergency Alerts may not be as reliable in these situations, as cell towers can be damaged or overwhelmed by high call volume.
    • AM radio stations can broadcast emergency information in multiple languages, ensuring that all members of our local communities receive crucial updates, regardless of the language they speak.
    • AM radio broadcasts do not require listeners to opt-in or sign up for alerts, ensuring that vital information is available to everyone. In contrast, Wireless Emergency Alerts may only be received by those who have compatible devices.
    • Whereas wireless alerts can tell you what is happening and where, AM radio can share many more crucial details and actionable information, such as how to stay safe, when the storm will pass or where help is located. Wireless alerts typically include “Check local media” directing people to their local AM station for lifesaving information.
    • AM radio stations also provide a real human on the line to help those impacted by the disaster. Recently during a tornado emergency, a local AM radio deejay helped direct emergency services personnel to a caller live on the air, getting them vital help they needed.

We just disagree . Public safety is a legitimate and compelling government interest that can justify reasonable mandates.

The legislation encourages the exploration of the best availablemethod of achieving the regulatory objective (it specifically instructs the GAO to investigate AM radio alternatives,) But until such time as an alternative that reaches the vast majority of the nation is available ;AM radio is the best means to achieve emergency broadcasts .

Here is the only choice to consider . Without AM radio being available the ONLY alternative for auto consumers would be a paid subscription due to the short range of FM coverage .

I believe there is neither a significant cost or savings in keeping or eliminating AM radio in EVs . I believe the REAL objection that automakers have is a cost associated with reducing and shielding the EMI (electromagnetic interference )and the RFI ( radio frequency interference ) that is associated with an all electric
    auto.

I have driven all over our state. I've never been able to connect to any fewer than eight or ten free FM stations. It is never a problem, so there is not a single person in this state who would need that radio. Even worse, the AM station in our city that I do occasionally like to listen to has a range of about fifteen miles. So I would prefer that my government leave me alone rather than forcing me to buy something I don't want so the guy north of Boise can find out a blizzard is coming.

rather than forcing me to buy something I don't want
that would be the EV not the radio Good thing you only drive in your state .AM radio is an essential part of our emergency alert infrastructure. Your choice is whether to use it or not. Cell towers and GPS go down. Radio Stations have their own power. FM in a car is not sufficient because there are many parts of the country where there is no FM service. AM has wider broadcast range, especially at night, It can be heard by a larger audience, with some listeners tuning in hundreds of miles away from a station.

I agree there are too many mandates . AM radio in a car is not one of them .The problem with AM reception is what I described ;the disregard by the manufactures to correct interference in electric cars . Yes it would be an added cost to shield against EMI and RFI .But they lie when they say that is their concern. The auto industry markets lucrative subscription services for audio and GPS. That is the real reason they want to eliminate free radio options .

Spending announcements across three of the four laws have totaled more than $543 billion, according to the White House and the Department of Commerce — half of the administration’s overall planned investment. US proposal would permit eagle deaths as renewables expand | AP News

This summer a wind turbine blade the size of the Eiffel Tower splashed into Nantucket sound along with other debris closing down beaches at the height of tourist season.

There are many such examples of regulatory neglect . Out in California they were clear cutting Joshua trees which is a protected species in California . Why ? So they could put up solar farms.

I think the green new steal aka The Inflation Reduction Act should be repealed. But if that doesn't happen Trump should used existing environmental laws to prevent such projects from getting approval

Where does used wind turbines go ? Where does spent solar panels go ?

    They go to the dump.

Wind energy has a massive waste problem. New technologies may be a step closer to solving it | CNN

Renewable Solar Comes with Recurring Waste Costs - Empire Center for Public Policy

How big a problem is it ?

How about a current use of 500 million solar panels and 73,000 wind turbines ?
By 2030, it's projected that there will be 10 million residential solar systems in the US, more than double the current number.

Conveniently these costs are not included when calculating the "benefits" of "renewable " energy.

No biggie . Glass and steel are recyclable . It represents a future industry . Right ? Yes glass and the metal parts can indeed be recycled . Let's consider an off shore wind farm. To build them they use foundations of cement that are a city block in size to support frames and blades that reach a football field in length. And that doesn't include the rare earth metals that are the guts of the turbine. What will be the cost to dismantle these structures and return them to shore for recycling ? More likely they would destroy them and let them rot on the ocean floor.

Or they declare bankruptcy and walk away

Hey what do you know ??? !! The Chinese installed kill switches in solar farm supplies sold in the US .

    Whodatunkit ?

Just some more critical infrastructure the Chinese can sabotage .
