    The Depp of it!
We have just invented a new word for unmitigated gall; it is Depp! Johnny Depp, he of Pirate fame, appearently thinks he can do a Depp and sail into any harbour and not obey the rules. He has imported two dogs into this nation with not so much as a salute to quarantine laws which have kept this country free of rabbies, not to mention various other animal diseases. He has now been granted 72 hours to remove them which is more consideration than any local or other international traveller, would be given, no doubt because they enjoy high value accommodation in a place full of international tourists.

Barnaby Joyce blushes red talking about Johnny Depp's dogs

When we grant people the right to use our facilities here and ply their trade we don't expect to be treated as door mats, the Hoy poloy of hollywood are only of passing interest but our disease free status is not. I say that appropriate justice would see him deported along with his dogs for breaking our quarantine laws

No It's not the worst, it just grabs me as the stupidist! At a time when we should be focused on important issues, like why do we pay more for grog than you do? We find there are nit wits whose attitude to life is I like to see things from the bottom of a glass. You see we don't have the same issues you do, like killer cops, at least not this week. It's budget week and all things political take on a new hue, reason overtakes crap and we actually begin to understand policy for a brief moment. This is a place where we arrest offenders, not shoot them, even black people get to make it to court and even to jail. And what do we have, the agriculture minister discussing drought relief, no! He is talking about deporting some stupid americans dogs. It beggars belief

You pay more for "grog" than we do because your cost of living is higher, your minimum wage is higher.

I have a friend who was just sent down under for a short time related to his job. He can't wait to get back home where "life is more affordable" (his words).

    Back to the #waronterrier
This has taken on a life of its own on social media, much more amusing than the budget and for those who think grog is more expensive here because of the cost of living might pause to reflect that it is more expensive because of tax, $5billion in tax, our cost of living is higher because of tax, we actually pay taxes in this country and thus need higher wages to give the government their share. Because of this our people are for some strange reason better off with a much lower poverty rate, go figure, a tax led economy

What do you expect from Hollywierdos ? This is nothing . California has water restrictions throughout the state .....except evidently for the home of the Hollywierdos .

Hey Karma I'm with you but big houses are the trend all over, Over here they bulldoze million dollar houses to build new ones. I hear you have drought in California, oddly we have parts where it hasn't rained in three years, must be catching or just maybe it's climate change. No, couldn't be that, Tony has declared it doesn't exist this term.

J-9, clarification, the age of entitlement was declared over last year, this year we are doing small business stimulation and taxing backpackers and multinational tax cheats

    Why there is a #waronterrier
Someone should tell Johnny Depp about these five biosecurity disasters

This country has had its share of biodisasters, some of them intentional and some accidential but it doesn't need flippant disregard for our laws. We are still trying to eradicate the rabbit population because those foxes are lazy buggers not the quick brown variety their advance agents suggest

The list is long and growing. I wonder if we should send some hendra virus infected horses to California, I wonder how well it would be received.
Maybe Johnny will take some white tailed spiders back with him in his luggage or a couple of bottle ticks on his dogs

Hey, Today it was raining whole day in Hollywood. Hoping for some relief here in drought area.
@parceled, Please don't send those virus equipped Horses, think about me. :). Its not only Depp who lives here. Mercy.

Here's a thought, we feel about america the way this person feels about Australia
Johnny Depp: American explains why we should let him keep the dogs

We don't let drips like Depp flaunt our laws, you should be grateful we sent you some of our stars but we note they keep coming back so america is a good place to earn money but not to stay

You guys have won your war on terriers Clete and have become a shining example of what fortitude and no nonsense can accomplish in the face of any threat from two rich dogs, and the owner who dared defy you.

'Dogs gone': Johnny Depp's law-breaking pups leave Australia - LA Times

You showed that rich entitled american snot not to mess with Australia!

Yes Tal and I notice your belligerent administration quickly withdrew its premature announcement of baseing B1 bombers in Australia, Your officials really should learn to keep secrets secret and not go blabbing to that loud mouth congress of yours. We are not just a convenient place to keep your military or your film stars.

You need to be careful or we might treat you like Indonesia and withdraw our foriegn aid package

You guys sure get your knickers in a knot over publicity stunts and posturing ploys. A bee in your bonnet would not be a pretty site one would imagine.

Better screen those autograph seekers and tourist closely when the filming starts for that pirate movie.

What are you afraid of ? that his dingos will eat your baby ?

No we have our own dingo's for that, no we don't want them to get loose and breed with the dingos and we have these miniture aggressive muts running around, besides where they come from there are these undesirable diseases, rabbies, foot in mouth disease to mention two. You have to see the humour in this as well as the pathos, we fight a never ending war against invasive species, whether they be human, or animal or in this case both. All we ever ask is you respect the law and do the paper work right. What will come out of this is no private jet will be allowed to land outside a major airport and all passengers will go through the normal airport customs procedure rather than the more trustfull relationship we have allowed in the past. You have your homeland security, we have ours, you chase terrorists we chase terriers

I am with para on this. I read the article today in my paper. Australia did eradicate rabies, by the way. Why would they want it back. Those little terriers could have brought any canine disease with them. They had no papers at all. Depp just smuggled them in without regard.

Yes and that makes him a law breaker and an undesirable, but we are used to a certain arrogance that eminates from northern climes. You see he has played a pirate too long and he spends too much time in character

Going home with his tail between his legs
    Depp's cloak and dagger exit

And another one bites the dust, or so it seems. Respect for law was never a hollywood strong suit but I don't doubt there is an agent or assistant about to be fired after Depp has incurred so much trouble about this dog gone incident. The studio must be fuming as the absence of their star would be send costs through the roof and to think that if the dogs had undergone a ten day quarantine detention in the first place all this could have been avoided long ago

I can understand your reluctance to have Yorkshire Terriers intermingling with your dingos .
  • May 26, 2015, 03:37 PM
    paraclete
Tom we have a reluctance to have any dogs mingling with our dingos in some states german shepards are specifically targeted to avoid the rise of a larger predator. You know as well as I do this is about the importation of exotic canine diseases and the Depps didn't even have the common sense to keep the mutts isolated, they took them to a grooming parlour where they may have mingled with other animals. You also know this is about a certain type of arrogance. Our border people do a great deal to keep exotic diseases out of this country

Yes well we all handle things differently, we dealt with the boats and now others have the same problem because they didn't take action. We dealt with the issue of illegal entry, come illegally and you cannot be resettled here, others choose to play the let's chase them after they get here game. We work very hard to stem the tide of drugs, not sure we are winning there, but we don't have the cocaine problem
