    The sign of things to come
    France has restricted entry of immigrants accredited by Italy. The cracks are appearing in EU soveriegnty as a number of nations express concern regarding the travel arrangements of North African refugees

    It appears it is no longer good enough for one nation to dump the refugees on another. The EU has long had a policy of freedom of movement within its borders but it now appears to depend upon who you are. If you can demonstrate an ability to pay your way then tourist you may be, but be in need and you will stay where you are

    The EU is an artificial construct. It was doomed to failure because they don't believe in a common European identity ,or a European 'sacred narrative of exceptionalism. The EU is a poor attempt to replace the Westphalian system of nation-states . It always depended on a rejection of national identity . There is no commonality (language ,culture )beyond sharing a continent . Having a common currency and a sham of a central government of elite unelected bureaucrats in the Hague is not enough glue to bind.

    No it's just French eliteism rearing its ugly head again. No Roma, no Refugees, but it demonstrates why a united states of Europe won't work, just imagine what would happen if the US said migrants couldn't cross the Rio Grande and enforced it

    Right now the poor US economy and the drug cartels are doing the work the border patrol is supposed to do .

    Yes a united Europe will not work . It is the same as if every state in the United States had a different language and cultural identity .

    Seriously though, the EU was fine as a free trade area but taking it further than that would take centuries and how Britain thought it could intergrate with traditional enemies is a mystery. They almost destroyed our economy to placate their new found friends and where has it got them? In bed with the PIGS

    They are watching them across the border. In case they start doing annoying french things, they can be there real quick to stop them. Besides... the Germans are more hospitable than the French and have better beer.

    Germany was considered the 'forward deployment 'state during the Cold War. Plenty of war gaming for the day the Soviets attempted a move through the Fulda Gap.

    France for all everyone's complaints has tried to be free of dependence on the American defense umbrella . Mock them all you want. They were fighting jihadist terrorism long before we were enganged . Their war against jihadistan in the Maghreb began in the 1950s ,and they suffered terror attacks in Paris into the 1990s .

    Yes the French have demonstrated ably why we don't need the US umbrella even down to having their own deterrant and proving that atomic power is viable. The French found the only answer to Muslim terrorism is to disengage, why is it that the US, etc haven't learned that lesson? But for all their developments they haven't won a war in centuries, and it is also why the French, read NATO, have been slow to carry the fight in Libya. Now america has given it's latest weapon of terror into the fight, the predator. It will seek out those sneaky Muslims hiding among the civilian population, opps, they are all muslims, how do you tell them apart? It hasn't mattered in Pakistan why should it matter in Libya?

    You did notice the wonderful response to the muslim rioting in Paris. Let them burn everything. Wonderful response to domestic violence by any ethnic group... particularly those who refuse to integrate.

    They should have gone in shooting the entire bunch. And deported those that were left.

    Yes... my comments were a bit tongue in cheek... but having spent enough time in France... I generally am not a huge fan of them. They are snooty and self righteous.

    Look I don't have any time for the lawless either a group of them torched a refugee detention centre here the other night because they couldn't have their way, but the French are no more arrogant than the Muslims who think their mere presence is a pretense to change the culture, so I don't blame the French for pushing back.

    How do you deport millions of Muslims without chaos? France should never have let the problem grow and now they are willing to do something about it and will be told by bureaucratics that you can't do that.

    Oh I agree... I don't think the French are as arrogant as the Muslim hordes that try to impose themselves on others anywhere they go. Close... but close only counts in horse shoes (a game) and hand grenades.

    When we speak of the US we speak of exceptionalism even though many outside the US consider it arrogance.

    The French are a proud people and believe in a unique identity . Would that the rest of the Western world had such pride.

    Pride and arrogance are two separate things... easily confused by some... but easily differentiated by others.

    Free enterprise?? He'd use the power of the Presidency to slap sanctions on China . As I said;he uses the power of government to confiscate real estate ;not for public use as the Constitution allows ;but to build casinos and luxury condominium projects (many of which have been utter failures).

    There never has nor ever will be "unfettered " free enterprise.

    Trump is not a proponent of such a system eitherway. He depends on the intervention of the governing authority. A women's home blocks the expansion of a casino parking garage ? No problem .
